First issue with the Jeep this morning. Starter isn’t Disengaging
94000km on the clock, hopefully it is because of the stupid amounts of rain we have been getting for the last couple of weeks.

The dealer in darwin had one so I just replaced it. The old one had a sized bendex but I accidentally snapped the back of the solenoid off when I pulled it out of the car.

New genuine starter from seppo land is $220 delivered but because I need it going tomorrow it cost $475 from the dealer in darwin. Local shops wanted $815 excluding freight. 8O

First repair in nearly 50000km of not looking after it. Pretty happy with that.

Narh that’s just what happens when it is 2500km to the closest major city.

Had another issue a fortnight ago. CEL and limp mode. Still drove ok but used a bit more fuel and no 6000rpg gear changes.
Broken cam angle sensor plug. $35 for a mopar repair kit from seppo land and 1/2 hour to solder into the loom.

Still really happy with the car but starting to think I need a 4 door to fit all my shit in it.

Heading to the north Simpson and tanami deserts at the end of the month so going to do a big service and replace the
plugs which should have been done 20000km ago

Having driven both 2&4 door versions I am a big fan of the 4 door JK’s.

Was seriously considering one when the wife smashed out the little one, but went a reliable jap heap instead. Main reasons were the have a surprisingly small cargo area for such a big car, the little niggling issues they have, many are thrashed off road and ultimately I needed a family truck that will sometimes go offroad, not an off-road truck I can sometimes fit the family in.

I tried to buy a 4 door last week however there are no rubicons left in the country so will wait and see what the JL is like.

I see. The shorty is still a great vehicle and in a way a bit more fun.

There is a lot of good extra’s on the rubicon the 4.1 transfer gears, Dana 44’s electronic locking diffs and sway bar disconnect springs to mind.

I do know people who have bought the sahara model with intent to upgrade driveline as they wanted 37’s. Their claim was it ends up a much better vehicle for not much extra coin when you consider the ruby cost. They also claimed the trim level was better. I can’t really remember the differences, tbh sport and above have decent trim.

The D44 front I am not sold on. You are still limited by the rear diff and the housings still bend. Round here they are notorious for bending. You will see dozens in a Jeep shop all with bent front axles. A lot of people claim a correctly modded D30 is is actually the stronger diff. If you have serious coin there are a range of D60 options out there.

The transfer is pretty hard to beat for a stock case, but there are some good options from atlas etc such 4 speed transfers that a much stronger.

Sway bar disconnects and locking diffs are options also pretty easy to get aftermarket.

The best thing about Jeeps is if you can’t find the spec you want the aftermarket has you covered.

Haven’t driven a JL yet but keen to. Really like it, the 2L turbo looks to be a pearler.

Yeah I have no intention on anything bigger then 34-35s which the rubicon gering is perfect for, don't even need to mod the suspension to fit.

Really all I will do is auxiliary fuel tank so will be 85L plus 65L capacity, bull bar, winch and 35s so I keep a good fuel range.

Rubicon is just really for lockers and gearing. Selectable lockers are over 5k where I live. Buying the car in Adelaide and
getting it sorted by the dealer means all the flash shiny bits and a rubicon for less then the price of a stocker in darwin and
then as a bonus I get to go wheeling with the SA fellas :peaceout:

Hold out until the JL is released Shep. From everything I've read and videos I've watched, the JL is superior in every way to the JK. The JL Rubicon 4 door is the way to go IMO. Personally I'm keen on the JT Scrambler Rubicon (JL Dual Cab Ute for those who don't know). Here a link to some pics and info...

The places I go I don't think a JT would get there. Rear overhang is to great, I get hung up quite a bit with my 2 door.

37+ inch tyres and decent lift would fix departure angles... But yeah, go a 4 door unlimited. I love mine... They are a great thing :)

Drove to Broome and back last weekend in 45 deg heat which finished of the tyres so bought some flash rims and tyres from ozzy tyres.
Went 33x12.5x17 on 17x9-15 rims. Can’t make them rub at all so probably should have gone 35s
