Hey Guys

Just wanted to ask a question.

Ive got a 2012 Jimny and want to know whats the biggest size
tyres i cud put on without doing the chop? I'll be installing at
least a 3" lift.

Ive scrolled forum but everyone does the suzuki chop, i want
to avoid this since the rig is new.

Its not chopping but gearing that is the limiting factor. 215/75/15 is the largest size you would want to go with stock gearing. These also fit without any modifications to bodywork with just a 40mm lift.

my cousin runs 215/75r15 BFG KM2 with ZERO lift and no scrubbing... there was a little at the start at the rear of the front guard, but it self-cleared after a while =)

mike57 is correct though - past a 215/75 you'll need to address gearing... and that's not cheap in a jimny.

Ill get the reduction gears once decide on tyres.
Reason didnt want to chop is I'm not very handy
with a jigsaw and i'll probs bodge it up.

I'm running 31s with standard gearing and my car doesn seem to have a problem with gearing unless drivin over big rocks. With m13 u will get away with 235s with out to much drama

Everyone has gone gearing crazy but in reality and as drewmouli said 235s and standard gearing are quite drive able in most situations. I used to tow 400kg with standard gears and 235s, just need a bit more patience. That said I love having adjusted gears.

Poor clutch technique/habits off road will see an early clutch death though.

im running 225/75/15 tyres on my jimny no lift atm ....... rubs when in hard off road driving
the gearing mod's you guys have done to ya jimny how much does it cost ?
trying to go up big sand dunes in low range .....wasnt cutting it :/
im gonna go m18vvt befor gearing tho

Haha seems like a sensis on 235's, I may even go 31s.
I would like to be able to get around white hills tho for those who know where it is in WA as i like to chase mulloway there when i get a chance to fish all night.

I got 215's too.... normal day to day driving is not bad at all.... yes, I felt bit lost of gearing but meh nothing to really worry about

in low range got no problem either, only when going downhills.... now thats gearing shit for me

235s and no gearing in the sand was great. I had a very usable rev range

going from. gti zook with 6.5s to g13bb Jim on 215s I can tell you the Jim is very under powered/geard. however I have just changed my driving style to suit.

Geared taller than a sierra??? but they have more power and torque.. wouldn't that make up for the gearing??

No. In short, adding power and torque doesn't compensate for incorrect gearing. Only cruiser/patrol owners think that.

If i was to get a 2inch lift could i fit 31's?

Mate it's easy to deduce the two general opinions from posts above

1) 215's with a modest lift won't rub at all and is recommended by a few, including myself. This is the legal option and doesn't require engineering certification in NSW might I add. Haven't driven a jimny with 235's, but I know my M13 with 215's and some extra weight (winch bars etc) was only just 'adequate'
2) 235's - rubs a little off road, but a few reckon the stock jimny and gearing is ok with this. - Not legal unless you get it engineered and either sort out the mild scrubbing issues or hope your engineer doesn't notice that it can scrub. Visually, 235's look awesome on a jimny compared to 215's.

So take your pick, but if 235's scrub, then in my book option 2 is not that great tbh, and 31's is gonna need careful thought.

I wouldn't want to run 31s on a New jimny auto. They are not very strong....

I didnt realise that 235's need engineering as my second choise was the 235 bighorne maxxis.

Is there any particular 2" lift kit that you would reccomend?

I really dont want to be getting blue slips and engineering certificates for and mods
