Androzic, its a freeware version of oziexplorer. Runs the HEMA maps like a champ.
get its companion OziMapper to download maps from free places if you dont have the awesome HEMA series.

Navionics is awesome for fishing, cost 15 bucks. but worth every cent, easily hundreds of dollars of charts in there.

Oh, and word on the street is Google maps will soon feature an "offline" mode so you can preload the area you want before you go. but google maps is kinda shit really compared to Hema and some of the other raster maps around.

Navigon by garmin is free for Samsung galaxy and available in the app store though its only suited for turn by turn street navigation not off road. I might have a look at the 1 scales mention too run hema/topography maps

Androzic n Ozimapper will do that as well as any ozf2 file made for oziexplorer

guess the OP should specify if he means on-road or off-road??? cos the vector map software like Garmin, Navigon, Sygic, tomtom etc are pretty much useless at offroad maps.

EDIT: Just looked at the open street cycle maps Royce, kickass topo detail. but bugger all track markings on it. or do I have the wrong one selected?

use ozimapper. its like a wizard sort of thing, step through the steps. it will spit out a file, then you use that in androzic.

make sure you also disable online sources in androzics settings. then you can be sure the maps are coming from the SD card only

Nearmap.com is alot better than google maps ive found, plus having the option to still see the past images is kinda cool!

I dunno why its taken them so long to include an offline mode lol.

If your map is in the androzic maps folder, it should open up automatically when you are in the maps range. Otherwise hit menu->maps and just list all the maps and it should be there.

did you go through right to the end of ozimapper? it should quit for you at the end.

If not, you got a setting wrong somewhere. ozimapper should output the map files straight to the right path.

um kinda.

it will go to whatever maps you have based on your gps lock. You can select a better/worse scale map with the little arrow keys (can have more than one map loaded for any location), or just zoom in optically with the mag glass.

Personally id see if you can find a set of the Hema 2008 or 2011 dvd (easy to find....) and load em on the SD card.. I think they are more useful for touring

example

yeah thats the ticket.
think of androzic as a free oziexplorer. only thing it wont do is open the new format ozf3 files, big frickety deal.... can convert those anyway i think.

I used androzic on the cape trip with my old htc desire, and it was awesome, albeit the screen was a little small, and suffered glare.

These days i run a hacked navman with oziexplorer, its a permenant fix to the windscreen. thought about using an android tablet, but for a decent screen it would cost too much and i wouldnt want it permanent mounted.
Navman was only 70 bucks and screen was designed for this sort of work so i find it really good.

Samwich - are you running Navigon on the Galaxy Tab 10? Where did you get it from (Navigon, not the tablet)? By the way - the Tab 10 doesn't have an HD (I don't think any of the tablets do - it's all flash memory), and if I remember correctly it doesn't have a microSD slot either, you need an external adapter for that - the smaller Galaxy Tabs do, but not the 10.
