having now done both i definitely agree. viscous fan without a shroud cooled better than my thermo fan in a (dodgy) shroud, and despite what people say there really isnt any noticeable power difference. knowing what i know now, id prefer the clutch fan, however I dont have the space between the engine & radiator. my thermo even had to go on the front, again something i've always hated.
