does sound like a pissy little part, I would probably have a crack at repairing it. but i have no idea what it looks like though etc etc. so my opinion doesnt mean shit.

As it turns out, there's really nothing complex about the clock spring. Its just designed to be difficult to get apart. I discovered that the actual unit I had (from a Mark II I believe) is near enough identical to mine except the end connectors to the air bag and harness. The 'clock spring' itself is really just 3 copper tracks sandwiched between 2 layers of plastic to form a ribbon, and loosely wrapped from the centre connector on the column side and to outer connector on the wheel side. This coild tightens when rotated in one direction, and loosens when turned the other. Can't remember which way, and its irrelavent at this point. There is enough slack inb trhe coil to allow for lock to lock turning of the wheel.

So I spent some time and carefully swapped the 2 cables. Its possible, but not certain, it broke after I disassembled the steering column to extend the uni joint spacers. I had cause to turn the wheels at one point but had them back close to centre when I reassembled it all. So I'm still curious about how it broke.

I don't actually see the problem with tackling a 'complex task'. And isn't asking questions regardless of how remedial the point of this forum? I can't think of anything I have attempted myself that I haven't been able to complete, even if it took a few goes. Case in point... Gear Box 4 times out and in, having only ever done 70's trimatics.

And Paul - I believe the way I had it repaired is stronger than what it was. And cost me a a quarter of a new set. It got me back on the road, and handled my last 2 outings Little Red and all. When I can aford some new ones, I'll be ditching these ones.

It actually doesn't matter to me that anyone thinks I drive 'like a ham fisted loon'. I break it, I fix it. Learnt a lot and I enjoy it. I'm not complaining and I don't get upset about it, why does everyone else? I just don't understand why this should have an affect on asking for info on certain things... On a public forum for Suzuki enthusiasts no less. Didn't realise there was prerequisites, except for owning a Suzuki and, being an enthusiast.

Wayne, I have trouble seeing how an arm that has snapped clean in two can ever be a safe option. Just don't kill anyone.

As far as driving style;
A) You make Suzuki drivers look like tools, we enthusiasts don't like that,
B) When you drive with carnage in mind, you should consider how it will impact on the people wheeling with you, i.e. when we spend 2/3s of the day putting you back on your wheels and fixing your car the rest of us don't really get to have a wheel. Ta!
C) If you're going to wheel the way you do, buy a Patrol and car trailer so it can be the total basher you want it to be.
D) When someone, besides you, in the group needs a hand you don't go to the rescue via the gnarliest hill you can see. As you found out once you were on your side, you'll be sorted when we get to you, and honestly I was tempted to leave you there.
E) When someone lends you shit so you can get back to the road, make sure you return it as soon as practical, or at least call to say you haven't forgotten about it. A ratchet strap may be a trivial item but shit give some thought to others.

Just an observation, 1 person saying something is usually an opinion... many people saying the same is usually fact most times.
