Again I think you are confusing wheel travel and flex..

can someone explain to me what is the difference between wheel travel and flex?

I would have thought the more wheel travel you have, the more flex you can get?

in what cirumstances (suspension setup) would you have sufficent wheel travel, but not sufficient flex?

(noob here, genuine questions)

Wheel travel is the measurement of the vertical movement of the axle. It's almost a theoretical measurement because its very rare to cycle the axle from full compression to full droop unless the car is jumped and lands dead square.

Flex is the diagonal movement of the axle- one wheel compressed and one wheel drooped. Depending on suspension design it's quite possible to have very little travel and very high flex. I'll post a more detailed explanation of this with photos when I'm not on my phone.

Blu is correct in that high speeds generally require more travel, but not necessarily lots of flex- in fact flex might me tightly controlled with sway bars

So it sounds like flex is limited by roll stiffness as well as wheel travel.

And if you had 'enough' wheel travel, and low roll stiffness, the flex could potentially be high.

But you coudl have stacks of wheel travel, high roll stiffness, and the flex could be potentially lower.

how common are sway bar disconnects? i dont see many around here, unless people just don't mention them. sounds like an easy way to get more flex.

Most people just throw the sway bar away
