Gday all. On the weekend out wheeling with a few mates i didn't even get pasty the 1st mud pit when i heard a big bang and the zook stopped. i pushed my way out of the mud and crawled under the zook. I soon relised i had done something bad. later that night we were trying to toy her home when the rear diff locked up and i was on one side of the road while my mate who was towing me was on the other with the rope across the road at 7 at night. I ended up blowen up the transfer gears. so its goen to cost me a bit. Im thinking of getting series 4 rockhopper gears. I would like to know if ne one has put these gears in.If they had ne trouble with them you know the general questions. Also if ne one knows of other options. other types of gears. |

What sort of oil are you putting in your case , it should be VMX80 , if it wasn,t that might be why , plain gear oil is no good , I have broken two housings so far with my stage 4's and the gears have survived both times , can't fault them so far , done about 3000 km on them so far , so we'll see how we go , Cheers Paul. |

The small input gear didn't happen to survive unscathed did it? If so, how much you want for it? |

After I blew up Casper's s3's I went with Calmini 5:14:1 (s 2's) and all is good. Fantactic off road and really can't feel the diff from s3's. You're lucky to have done 2 transfers Mich and not have the gears going bang but you have only done 3000k on them. THey don't like revs off the line even if you are in 4wd High, that's how I did Caspers. Hey Royce |

Started rebuilding transfer , luckily my stage 4 gears survived. $1250 at BBM , SYDNEY.
Have to grind the case to fit the larger gears.
All the gears in and the shifter rods fitted , left centre shift rod ball bearing out to enable low 2 shifting.
Side view of gears in position.
Cheers Paul. |
