two is better! and better yet is to make the aux battery a deep cycle one.

plan on mostly running a fridge off that aux battery and maybe some lighting for camping. got price on a dual battery switch thingy and a battery tray, was planing of using the piranha one. and the clever sales guy wasn't sure if a deep cycle one would fit or not...
so i know some off you have dual batterys in your Jimnys. does a deep cycle one fit???

i don't have a dual battery set up but maybe a little more info like which sized AH you want/need?

often as it is with batteries you just need to check with each manufacturer for dimensions

should be heaps of room for a second batt on the passenger side of the engine bay. i think pirana make a tray to suit the jimny, not sure what size batt it holds tho.

a mate was running a massive deepcycle arond a 12 inch on passenger side...might have been a custom tray...

yeah thats where i'm going to fit it on the passenger side using the piranha tray.
piranha web site says it fits a 8 inch Exide ED4 and after goggling 'Battery size 8 inch Exide ED4' i found a ED4 deep cycle battery measuring 237x174mm and 215mm high...

kinda wish i did that first..... :roll:

i imagine that should be big enough for what i need it to do

if you move the water bottle for window washers you can get the second batt to fit in there

Installed a second battery in mine for the longer trips in remote regions mainly for safety.
I used exactly the same battery so that if the old one/main one died i could do a straight swap. While my electrical link could handle charging current it couldnt handle starting off the auxillary, the voltage drop at start would make the isolating relay drop out.
The standard Jimny battery is a good 40amp-hours and I think for most purposes they can handle moderate discharge cycles well. If its being charged up all the time you can save yourself some of the weight of the extra lead in a deep cycle. Std batteries are also much cheaper.

nah its for a fridge and lighting so it will get run flat often and a standard battery wont like that at all
