Sierra steering wheel question.

The one on mine is aftermarket, I’ve looked up the regs and found that:

The diameter of any replacement wheel may be up to
25mm smaller than the original wheel but must not
be less than 350mm.

So i can check mine, what is the standard steering wheel size on a sierra :?:

More blurb from the rule book;

Altering a steering wheel might affect a vehicle's
compliance with the Australian Design Rules (ADRs)
applicable to occupant impact protection.
Steering wheels fitted to vehicles manufactured to
comply with ADR 10/.. may only be replaced by a
steering wheel which has been tested to comply with
ADR10/...

Couple of other ADR;s are mentioned but they appear to refer to airbags, am I correct in assuming a Sierra is built to ADR10/ ? :?:

If you have airbags(you don't) It's illegal to change the steering wheel to a non airbag type.

A standard 1.3 sierra's steering wheel OD is 395mm

So your allowed a 370mm wheel minimum.

Many wheels are smaller than this and still pass rego/inspections.

most after market ones that i have seen are about 350mm
you can check your conmpliance places under the bonnet to see if if has adr 10 applied

hmm, i just went out to the car and measured mine, 325 - 330mm 8O

It's a bit of a pain actually, not because if i kept it i'd have Popeye forearms in 3 months but while driving, it conceals most of the dash info.

I'm going hunting for a new ADR10/ one ( what ever that turns out to be ), suggestions / recommendations where what to buy are appreciated, cheers.

i hate threads that don't seem to finish :evil:

i tried ebay supercheap repco google cashconvertors :wink: ranging in price from 79 through 400. nothin grabbed me and the search had stalled.... then yesterday down the local cheapa parts shop for nuts and got an ADR10/ one of the wall for a lazy hundy, even came with new shiny allen head bolts too.

After - 355ish mm dia. Ha ha, who da boss now ? ME, it says so on my wheel :roll:

The new one is not a rubber finish, like the $79 dollar jobby, i doubt it's leather but it's some kind of stuff that requires real stitching as opposed to moulded rubber stitch. Next issue to clarify will be the after market seats, then all is above board and i'm going to get a BL approved down DOT.

yeah it does. there were a few options in a ADR10/ ' D ' wheel. I liked the idea as easier to get in and out when swinging the legs. Why you say you can't have them ?

im not sure about this, as the a lot of the newer performance cars that i get to drive at work(car wash) have the flat bottom. but maybe its ok as it a factory option. i will say it make getting in and out very easy for me being 6 ft 2-3"

i find the off centre & flat bottom wheels really annoying, ended up with this on my Vitara cause it was the only one I could find that wasn't off centre & all flashy & blingy.
