| Post subject: | Fixing an old door |
I've been looking for a replacement driver's door for a few months now to no luck, so I guess I'll just stick with the one i've got and get it back to spec as well as possible. I've even checked out the US Smaurai market, but unfortunately shipping is a killer. A couple of Qs - How to fix the outer door handle - currently the latch only opens when I lift it right to the limit - how to fix this so the handle gets less stress? How to fix a rusty bottom sil? I'm thinking just to attack it with a wire wheel or even to get the whole door media blasted (as there's a couple of points on the door that'll need sorting). How to fix cracks along the window sil? These cracks are making the outer door skin vibrate quite heavily - which in turn makes the window iutself vibrate, the internal door skin vibrates, etc... How to realign the door - my door is about 1 or 2 mm too far back causing the door panel to damage around the locking latch. Is it easy as loosening the door hinges and tightening them in proper alignment? I want to use as little bog as possible, i'd prefer to repair metalwork with metalwork. I don't plan on selling my beastie any time soon, so i'd prefer to fix these problems properly, rather than cover them up and "that'll do". |

Here's some pics of what i'm facing - is it repairable, or easier/cheaper to get a new door? There's 3 cracks along the sil, and rust is along 1/3 of the door gutter. I should mention the door is otherwise straight and true, no bog, no mid-panel dings... etc.

Get another door, that one's fingered. Take to long to fix to be worth it. |
