There's no point replacing a carby sierra tank with a carby vitara tank. The size is nearly the same so it's lots of work for no gain.

It's a good swap if you plan to go EFI as it avoids all the mess of lift pump/surge tank/feed pump in th load area.

The LWB tank is larger (55 litres rings a bell?) but it's wider so it will be a real pain to try and get between the chassis rails at the rear. It's also EFI only. Sure, you can delete the EFI pump easily enough, but I still think it would be a pain to fit.

I think these figures are correct.

1.6 Carby ~ 42L
1.6 EFI SWB ~ 50L
1.6 EFI LWB ~ 55L
2.0 J20 ~ 60L ( SV420)
2.0H20 ~ 60L (SV620) ???

The 2.0L J20 tank is 25mm deeper than the 1.6LWB, but otherwise it is identicle. Both are about 700 mm long x 340 wide.

Whats stock un-molested sierra again? 42?

swb vit efi IS 50L. I measured it. Jug and water.

Owners manual says 42l, when mine is under empty it takes 38l, reckon your jug might be a bit off

Just to clarify if possible. If I was to make up mounts in my car for a SE416 LWB fuel tank, and then bought either a SV420 or SV620 tank, it would bolt straight in as a straight swap, with the only side effect being the bottom would sit an inch lower?

I would get measurements then make the mounts.

I have a lwb 2Lv6 tank in my lwb, had to move the rear crossmember and it just fits between the rails.

This is a 1.6 swb efi vit

G'day all, I've heard that people use fuel tank from vit SWB 1.6 carby model. It's 50l and with few mounting modification can replace factory one. Have anyone did this but without having body lift? I know that it would sit lower, but fuel tank can be protected by bashing plate. If that is possible to fit into sierra without BL, than is it easy to do it, like swaping them over, conecting fuel lines and hoses or there is more work involved? cheers Chris

hey mate, cant help you out about the fitting questions, but i dont think it is a 50L tank, i have a swb vit but with the efi and its only 42L so i doubt the carby would be bigger, but i could be very wrong. cheers Mitch

I'm unsure of the size, but I know Taff put a Vit fuel tank in his LWB, I'm not sure it the vit tank was efi/lwb/swb though. So try PM'ing him and see what he has to say.

You have to remove all the 1.3 fuel tank mounts. Make up one mount in the shock x-member, and make up mounts on the rear x-member (pipe). Without a 2" BL it will sit a fair bit lower, and you may have some small issues of the fuel filler hose and chassis rail. The fuel filler hose comes out the top, and may be a pain. Other than that it would be fairly easy, but a BL makes it so much better. With armour plate over it, the armour has the same clearance as the stock 1.3 tank. The other issue is theres a bit of fiddly exhaust work to route around the fuel tank. Some heat shielding will be worth considering too. I haven't seen the two 1.6L SWB tanks side by side, so they are most likely the same size as you suggest. I suspect that the 2.0 4 cyl, and 2.0 V6 tanks are the same though....

thanks a lot for advice, as I see there is no point of replacing it with vit tank. I removed BL and don't want one. I'm not changing carby for efi, and for so much work and so little gain it looks like it's not worth the hassle. I wish ARB long range tank would cost at least 50% less, but they probably are only for LWB anyway. I'll do a bashing plate over a tank and will live with jerry cans for longer trips:) cheers Chris

Ok, so my solidworks isn't playing the game, but here are some dimensions from my PDF's. 42L SWB carb/EFI vitara tank. ( same tank guard for both, so there is no such thing as a 50L SWB tank) Bolt spacings.... Front flange ( closest to diff ) 455mm apart Rear flange 480mm apart. Tank body is approx 350 deep from front to back, and 700 from side to side. 55L 1.6 LWB efi tank Bolt spacings.... Front 480mm Rear 480mm Tank body approx. 435 deep by 750 wide. 60L SV tank Bolt spacing Front 480mm Rear 480mm Tank body approx 435x800. From these dimensions, you can assume that the LWB efi and SV tanks will bolt to the same mounts. But you will need about 850-900mm between your chassis rails to get an SV tank in. Hope this all makes sense

The Estate wagon tank just fits between the LJ's rails, and I might have room for an exhaust Only reason I ask is I have an SE416 one I can borrow, and I'm bored and want something to do now!
