had a minor oil leak at the back of the oil sump... was barely enough to even worry about, but decided to fix it anyway... ive scraped off the remainder of the old seal, cleaned up the surfaces best i can (not perfect but i believe good enough to not leak)... now, as well as the seal, i have the silicone to put on there as well... whereabouts am i meant to apply that? between the engine and the seal, between the sump and the seal, both, neither...?

haynes service manual isnt exactly clear on that... and im hoping to get this back together this afternoon if possible, so if anyone can tell me, it would be greatly appreciated

throw the seal away and just use gasket goo/ gasket maker. Having the seal there aswell adds an extra surface to seal, and therfore potentially leak.

Just apply a liberal amount of goo to the sump flange and tighten up slightly onto the block. Wait 10mins, then tighten fully.

I usually just use a few small dobs of goo to hold the gasket in place while refitting the sump.
If a cork gasket without goo is good enough for Suzuki, it's good enough for me.

gasket goo, assuming you can buy from most good car parts specialists? ive only got blue maxx silicone... that stuff any good? and how much is a liberal amount? just common sense to make it decently thick? the tube i have is 95g...

I did the sump last month, used gasket goo either side of the gasket. Was good to hold it in place too :)
