any one out there done this type of conversion? if you check my picks ive already started, but ive run into a few probs! any help would be very helpfull! thanks

yeah not the best conversion around (that 4x4monthly guy should be shot, however I know 2 people that have done it, what problems are you having?

One of the worst you could do! If your not far into it abondon it! :?

Way too heavy for the front! Makes down hills way too uncomfortable! :wink:

And on road the under steer is huge!

A guy i know of in vic is doing it but he has toyota diffs and will be running all the gear to keep it steady! Means he needs more weight in the rear!

Did you rersearch this before you started?

Not trying to put you off the conversion BUT i know of a few pople from other forums who have actually pulled it back out and gone to a vitara motor or something smaller!

probly gonna run a gq transfer with dana 35 diffs out of a xj. not gonna b used on road really, just wanna do some thin a little out of the ordinary. 1.6 conversions are a dime a dozen, couldnt b fuked with toyota crap. the main prob im havin is the gearbox ive gotta cut the tunnel to make it fit. evryone ive spoke to say to just lower evry thing, but i cant se that workin. the last thing i wanna do is smash a trans pan on the rocks!

Didnt Fatzook have a four inch body lift in his to do this engine swap?

And had to rebuild the tunnel. Ask him but I don't think he would recommend it. Even with Bundeera axles and an A framed rear it didn't go as good as everyone had hoped. It rocked at mud drags though.

yeah you have to pretty much make a new tunnel and I am pretty sure you need to shift some chassis rail out of the way too

All aaron has done on the Buggy was widen the tunnle .. BUT we dont have the gearbox in the tunnle

the top of the gearbox is "slightly" in the tunnel.

We will have to widen the tunnle to get the gearbox to sit "in" it

That is wht everything sits so high & so low

Yep useless conversion, don't bother :D

I learnt this lesson the hard and expensive way. Zooks are small and light. They need small and light engine transplats. Not 1950's tractor motors with less power than my great grandmothers wood fired iron :D

Hey mate. I did this conversion a few years ago. I had a lwb tray back. As everyone else has said it does make the front end really heavy but on road, mine handled fine(except in the wet!). I had 2 inch body lift but still had to fabricate a new trans tunnel. The tranfer lever also ends up right near the back of the cab .I was suprised how well the stock running gear handled it. I had hilux diffs ready to go in when I broke something but I never had any troubles.
