Post subject:  Noise in transfer case under load new 2009 Jimny

I bought new a 2009 Jimny and it has a noise apparently in the transfer case when taking off in first gear under load, that is, taking off at set of lights from stop on a hill. The noise sounds similiar to a tyre rubbing on a mudguard. The problem is to be fixed under warranty but I have been told there is no guarantee that it can be fixed. I do not accept this as the noise devalues the vehicle. I believe some other Jimnys' have had same problem while under warranty. Does anyone have knowledge of this problem?

If its the case it can be fixed.

Put a new one in.

Don't let them rip you off!

I have had it since new.

Cant remember what it is, but it's not the TC.

As you can tell it's not a concern to me.

Mine does that when i slip the clutch taking off up a hill. has done it since I got it 3 1/2 years ago. Recon it could be the thrust bearing?

Thanks for all the comments. It is not the clutch slipping as the noise can be heard constantly while driving up a steep incline such as a very steep concrete driveway.
The noise can also be reproduced driving on the flat at crawl speed in first gear and then stepping on the accelerator.

Guess I will let Suzuki do their stuff and see if it fixes the problem.
Thanks guys

New parts have been fitted to the transfer case to no avail. I am now waiting to see what Suzuki do next to fix this. I am rather annoyed as it took Suzuki about 10 weeks of indecision (they could not decide on replacing some parts or fitting new transfer case...they opted for the former) before fitting parts to transfer case.

Ive got a 4.0 v6 courier at work that does something similar its a gear meshing noise in this case . only under load after takeoff.
we fixed it with some moreys in the case and gearbox, but the box shifts slow when cold now.
ford told us it was not an issue and to live with it but these are notious for shitting gearboxes so we figured fuck it cant hurt I hope.
couriers also run ATF in the box and transfer so could be totally different thing for you

Silverwater, a few days ago I bought a second-hand Jimny (2010, 23000 km), which has exactly the same problem. Were you able to sort this out? I'd really appreciate it, if you could let me know what causes this noise.

Thank you!

I also have a 2009 model and from when I first got it (4,000 km) it had a transfer case noise a little like you describe. A year or so later I worked out that it was a stretched chain. It sort of makes a sound like a tyre rubbing on a guard when starting off in first. Eventually it stretched enough to slip on the gear teeth and then it was easily identified. The initial noise was the chain hitting the inside of the case. You might have this problem.

Transfer chain. Its the known weak link expecially in autos
