hi guys, i got my sierra steering like a boat, very unresponsive, loose on the steering wheel (alot of play) and when driving at above 50km but bellow 85km quite hard not to float all over the road. oh and the steering wheel is off center but about 10-15 degrees now i dont think suzuki would have been able to produce a car with such poor steering in 1993 so i believe i have some issues with it. what are the main things to check with sierra's steering system, i want to get on top of this so it feels safe to drive, especially in wet conditions. any help is much appreciated |

On top of the steering box there is a grub screw. Tighten it in a few turns, and see if it improves. |

^^ mines like that - has been out of adjustment for about 5 years now... lol the "play" in the wheel though, which is about 1/8 of a turn (a lot!) does still turn the wheels though, taking up the full slack in the wheel the wheels move around 10mm each way, so its not outright play - and at highway speeds i keep the car straight using that bit of play and its featherweight to do. Offroad it also gives you a small 'run up' before the real steering kicks in... so its win win i reckon =) ...ok im just trying to justify not replacing it. |

when your steering box needs adjusting its cause something has flogged out and now the box is rooted, they arent designed to be adjusted thats for setting it up from new but for now the real way to set it up is to lift teh wheels off the ground and turn it lock to lock then wind it in a little and try and keep going until you notice it getting a bit stiff in places, then back it off till the stiffness is gone, they are most definitely not designed to be set in a single position |
