Post subject:  Motor Choice ?

I have finally killed the old trusty g13a in my 97 coily, it has dropped a piston so basically i want to come out the end of this with an injected motor. Now i need some advice i am having trouble choosing between motors and how to buy them.

first question Front cut or Motor seperately?

second thing i don't know what to choose i need to know about the cost ease of installation and performance to try and weigh up what i want to do.

here are the motors i have to choose from
M13A
G13BB
MPFI 1.6 ..maybe
M16A

i am interested to see what people have found i think mu favourite choice would have to be the M13a or m16a but i am not sure what needs to be done to fit one. I know G13BB's are simple to fit but i would really like twin cam and i think the mpfi 1.6's are getting a little old but i would like to hear everyones opinions.

also where is a good place to get front cuts and motors ?

Thanks Sam

I would pick the 16valve G16, only cause its got enough power for a sierra and is a pretty straightforward fit

g13BB is easy as well but what power (or more importantly torque) do they make?

the M series is a pain isnt it? many fabbed up parts makes for a harder to maintain conversion

as to engine vs front cut, I would go front cut, either already stripped of all the stuff you dont need or with the option of stripping the bits you dont need off and selling back to the wrecker, bare engine means youll miss out on lots of brackets and bits and dont get a chance to see how it all went together

I wouldnt worry about km's on a G16, mine has 200k and is perfect, a jap one will have a lot less and the extra power means they are thrashed a lot less than a G13

It all comes down to what you want out of it, what you want to do with your sierra.

i have narrowed it down to g13bb or mpfi 1.6, does anyone have power figures for these motors

I paid $1800 for the motor on its own with Computer & harness. So I'd say $2600 is not a bad price for a front cut. You could always sell off the bits you dont need. eg Gearbox Front diff & CV's ect...

G13B has the same power and torque as the g16 and twin cam also.

Im going thru the same thoughts atm at which engine to fit to the zook. I drove it to Harvey (approx 160kms) on the weekend and it was painful, flat out the whole way, so i need something that makes cruising a little easier, just not sure which to go for yet??

Sp1086 has a really good setup. I think he has a web site with all the mods for changing his engine over. He gets on about once a day so I'm sure he will point you in the correct direction. :-)
