The ute gets done every 10,000 now, and the vit will be every 7500 I reckon.

My Jimny is coming up for a service soon and I have been having the oil changed around every 6000ks. Apart from the 1st time which I used Valvoling 10-40w semi-synthetic I have been using Nulon 5-30w full synthetic which I really like and it has not used a drop but as I get the car serviced at a mechanics so the warranty is not affected I was thinking of going to the 7500km service schedule to save some money as the Nulon is expensive and is suppose to be long life. How often do you guys change your oil. Paul |

i do mine every 5,000 or a bit over. i use hpr 10 which is a semi synthetic. cost me $45 for a botle of oil and filter when supershit has there 20% off sales. to regards to your question, i reckon doing your service every 7,500 will be fine. |

do mine every 5 - 6000. also do the filter every time. i probably dont have to do the filter that often, but meh. i go to the beach almost every weekend and the little car gets worked pretty hard. the oil is pretty black at each change. |

I have always done mine every 5000kms, and i always use an oil flush, but, if the engine has been worked hard quite a few times, i change it more often, i keep an eye on the colour of the oil, and how it smells as well, to give me a good indication of how the oil is doing... i used to use Valvoline 15W40 Semi Synth, but now i have the GV, i will be using a better quality oil, maybe Nulon or Penrite Semi Synth, in a 10W40

Royce clued me up here - black oil ain't bad, that's how I used to gauge if it needed a change myself. I've since read a quite few online articles and stumbled onto similar magazine snippets on the matter and it seems oil is good long after it turns black. It's only shot when it starts to thicken... hard to tell off the dipstick tho. Stick to the service manual and it's recommendations - Suzuki knows best. |

Stick to the service manual and it's recommendations - Suzuki knows best. your not going to hurt anything execpt possibly your sump plug thread buy doing exessive oil changes
but your wasting your money doing them any earlier than 7500km - 10000 on a petrol daily driver yes change it sooner on your bush hack , it might be the thing that saves your motor( I do mime every 5-10 drives with a 15 40 diesel oil if its getting a hard time) diesel oil change intervals are different as they need the oil changed at set intervals to get the soot out of the block before it blocks up things and wears bearings etc |

you have to factor time as well, the additives in oil break down from the first time the oil is used and usually needs to be chucked in 3-6 months depending on the oil quality which sucks for cars driven every 6 months

Yeah but I guess its as much about the therapy of playing with the car as it is about maintaining it in general. Total cost to do all 4 is about $40-50 in oil and an hour and a half or so of time, cheap really in the whole scope of things. |

A question for all the I drop my oil more than I change my daks people, how often do you change your coolant and brake fluid and other filters and what do you use? these are all heaps important and often overlooked on my personal cars I do coolant and all oils every 40,000 all fully syn stuff, oil filter every change and air and fuel every 20,000 on the work stuff all oils evey 40km coolant when the system is open for some reason air and fuel every 20km (these cars may do up to 60,000a yr) brake fuid never Im trying to get rid of a few workers
my on site cherry pickers every 100 yrs in summer and 160 hrs in winter oil and oil and air filters hyd oil every 1000 hrs |

Just a quick query for you penrite boys (such as myself) I Use transaxel 75 for the transfer case and gearbox (as per penrites site reccomendations) and Hypoid 80w/90 for the Diffs, I notice that the api rating for the hypoid is api GL-5. but the manual calls for gl-4. Got on the phone to penrite, they just say they stand by their reccommendations and its better than gl-4. But i heard different on other forums saying it will stuff up your diffs. What do you guys use/reckon? PS I use everyday full synth 10/40 for the engine if anyone was curious. and i do every 5000k |

A transaxle is a front wheel drive gearbox, which also incorporates a diff. The oil is designed to work with the diff (hense the GL5 rating) but also works fine with the syncros. |

My bad, I was skim reading as usual while the kids were crawling over me. You really want a GL5 rated oil in the diff. GL4 just won't give the right lubrication and protection for the ring and pinion gears |

I use Mobil 1 5-50 fully synthetic. I mainly use that because i give it a hard time around the rev limiter. Change oil & oil filter every 7000 or so. |

I did mine the other day after 12k. sing Shell something 10-40 or somewhere abouts. Since i have had a real wierd buzzing sound coming from the engine (like a remote control sound). Any idea? |
