Had a mechanic upgrade the G13 to the G16 8V Carb Motor into my SJ50 Sierra, got it home and found a spare red wire coming from the throttle body and hanging in mid air. :o

Goes like stink, but fuel consumption approx 250km for 40litres, sooty exhaust, idles at 1800rpm...so somethings wrong.

Found a wiring diagram which says there's a red wire which goes from the mixture solenoid to the computer control box??

Looking from the front of the car, theres a blue wire closest to you on the right hand side of the G16 throttle assem/carb.. a few inches further back there's the red wire, but no longer connected.

Where should this red wire be connected to?

ANyone got a G16 8V carb engine they can take a look at.

I'm out in the country and there aint any vits around I can go look at.

Sorted. Goes to positive terminal on the coil..

Solenoid still not cooperating.

the solenoid should "click" when the ignition is turned on . its not supposed to go to the coil , but that will do for "ignition on" power. disconnect it from the coil , and touch it on the positive of the battery , does it click ? if not thats the cause of your problems , its the anti - dieseling solenoid , it cuts fuel to the idle circuit , hence why the car is set to idle at 1800rpm .

If that solenoid is not working, would that effect fuel consumption as well?

When working properly, is it either fully on or fully off, or does it have inbetween?

And where should that red wire be finally attached to if not the coil?

Put your Sierra carby on it, and put all wires where they were originally...

Oh, and Gympzook, a solenoid is either on or off. No in-between.

Unfortunately the previous engine was running with a weber! I've still got it sitting here on the old engine so I will use it as a last resort. The solenoid is functioning properly on this carby, so theres something else going on. Fun and games!

I've got suzisport on the hunt for another carby. WIll see what they can find.

The weber would be ok, but its got no choke and is a turd until the engine warms up.
