Post subject:  Interior LED lights

Guys, i want to replace the interior light for a LED light.
I want to mount it so i can use it as a bit of a flood light when unpacking back of sierra at night, just enough to light up the tray.

Has anyone got an LED that they would recommend?

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

unless u want to rewire it its kind of hard.

basicly your light has a switch earth (for door's) and a constant power going to it. and the light mech lets u select what u want to use.

i considerd doing this not long ago but stuck with standard light in the end.

you could use the standard light AND led's powerd buy the standard light as such...

i bought a set of these not long ago off ebay but have never fitted them

Some of the car accessory shops sell a halogen or LED powered swivel light, you can twist it around and point it where you want, would work well for that

I see no reason why you can't run LED strip lights from the original interior light.
All you need to keep is the switch.

there is no reason you cant use the original wiring.
all you need is a 3 way switch to go with the new led light.

you can also get stuff like this to go inside your normal interior light..

if you want to hook up your light to the interior light..

just put the positive side of your LED cluster to the positive side of your light.. and do the same with the negative.. the positive side will have power to it all the time, and when you open a door, the trigger switch will give it a negative feed and complete the circuit.

I just mounted two little LED spotties in each corner of my hoop. And they do the job.. I will upload some pics later.

from what jonno_racing said the light is negatively switched
so your wiring should look like the pic below.

note: the only parts that need changing should be the 3 way switch and the light. for the rest of the wiring the original wiring will be fine.

PLEASE correct me if i'm wrong as i have never actually looked at the wiring for the interior light in a seirra

makes sense. I think i'll just splice the wiring to the interior light, and hook up an additional LED light in the corner...
Thanks

My Vit came with an LED interior light already fitted.
Its like daylight when its on.
It has its own 3 way switch.
Can't help with tech, cos I didn't fit it.
My door switches are a bit loose,
so I need to switch it on/off manually,
or it flashes on over bumps.
When I first saw the flash, thought I'd been pinged for a red light.

I am not hooking mine up to any fancy circuits or anything.
Just to two switches on the dash with an in line fuse:

And I just face them towards the wall when they aren't in use.

I got lucky and picked up a set of them for just under $35 including postage. :) 1 Light easily lights up the back half of the car. :)
