Hi all. New to the forum.

I am trying to learn as much as i can about changing a few things on my Jimny.

One thing I did learn today is ARB just quoted me $3700 to fit a front and rear air locker with the middle of the range compresser. I might be calling the cairns dealer and seeing what they want.

But on the other hand, these china lockers might be the go for me.

I'm thinking of getting one maybe, I got a price for a rear locker, compressor and all the hardware to suit $499 delivered, it really does sound too good to be true as a genuine arb is $1100 alone no hardware or comp, but hey I run an Aldi 9500lb winch no dramas there, bargin @ $400

Are you sure, parts alone including the comp are about 2850. Plus labour.

sorry miss read it, if he ment arb taking diff center out and putting it back to gether then year might be that price, but 2 lockers and a compressor is $2680, take your center in and its $190 for them to fit to center plus fit all new bearings and seals. fit compressor your self for free.

I got my locker delivered a few weeks ago. About 4-5 days it took from payment to my door if I remember rightly.

My mechanic is going to install the locker next week, I'm going to install the electrics and compressor tomorrow.

I've been looking around at compressor installs and locations under the bonnet. It seems the chinasoong locker has a very different profile to the arb, and is much higher vertically, limiting my location options.

Image

Am I correct in thinking that A is the line to the diff and B is the exhaust valve? Or is it the other way around? I am finding it hard to get that information from the manual/ on the net. I will know as soon as I hook it up and turn it on, but someone here might help? If I am right, the flex on the air lines is not great, so that makes the compressor even higher.

Also, note, its not really advertised, but you can pay scott at china4x4 by paypal. I wasn't comfortable with the fees for international bank transfer, and theres no security as such. Paypal is zero fees for the buyer, and he was happy to go that method, just ask.

A is to diff, blue line pushes into the fitting
B is the exhaust.

As I mentioned before, the high profile of the china air compressor really restricts mounting options.

It fits alot better sideways :) Here's mine mounted on my 99 jimny. No brackets and no need to move anything, i guess theres one advantage to not having abs. It clears all the washer piping so heat shouldnt be a problem. Electrics tomorrow.

Rockyroadoutfitters.com has arb rd208 for $835 each. Shipping is about $200 on their calculator. I still can't decide which way to go.

Arb locker is only $1075 in Australia? Not really worth the overseas buy for $30 odd

I've done the shopping around, it's basically the same price and less mucking around getting it here in Oz. The costly part is getting it fitted! ARBs drive in drive out RRP is about $560 per locker! Yet being a RRP some shops seem to vary it a bit and can be cheaper or dearer by sometimes a few hundred

I thought for a sierra they would be just fine, but having mine in for about a year now, i wish i had spent the $ on the real thing. First the compresor seized and just about sent the lwb to the promise land, now its just locked in without the compressor on at all. Half price for half the deal imo.

I notice that these guys now have an RD204 listed on their site.

Would this be the same as the ARB part number RD204 for a 10 bolt Vit rear diff?

The description on the Chingsoon site just comes up with jibberish on the browser here.

I know ive only used mine on 1 trip, but for the price you pay i think they are pretty decent. Like the machining isnt perfect, but for what it is its more than whats needed.

Ill do a decent write up once ive taken it out a handful of times and see how it all goes :)

I asked for a quote for a GU patrol front locker for a mate, this is the quote I got if anyone is interested.

Model: RD136
Fob Unit price: 499 USD / Set (air compressor included)
QTY: 1 sets
Freight cost: 217.5 USD
Total: 716.5 USD

I also asked if they do SJ40 lockers (I was certain they don't but it never hurts to ask), I got this reply.

"As to the air locker suit for SJ40 Suzuki, could you kindly get back to me with ARB version."

Let me translate the chinglish for you... velly solly, no rocker for 1 riter. You're right though, can't hurt to ask. I'd have them in mine already if they did make them. One day I'll get the chance to do the housings and move the 2 chinasoongs from the shelf under the house to the LJ.

As for the 1 Litre/LJ locker scenario.... I tried buying another chinese RD87 the other day... considering I demolished the last locker in the front of the LJ, and the random open centre I threw in lasted 2 trips.... Just note, I buy the chinese one, because its still the old style ARB RD87 which ARB no longer make......

Anyway long story short, bloody thing arrives and they have "updated" their design to the new ARB design....(even though they still call it RD87) Bloody hell, totally useless to me!!! I need the old style one to do what I do with the funky LJ diff, the newer design has issues I haven't figured work around's for...
