I have a 1996 Suzuki vitara. It has the g16b engine in it.

I have two problems. One being an oil leak. It's not a major leak but its enough to give me the shits. A few weeks ago I changed the clutch and believe I must have ruined the tailshaft seal. I have oil on my rear diff, under body, tail shaft......well pretty much everywhere.
I have degreased the car and am fairly confident that that's where its from.

Does anyone have the part number for the seal?

I have the newer transfer case with the different spline. Will any seal last?

Second problem is its very indecisive with its idles. It doesn't hunt or surge. Just only idles when it wants.

It can go days working fine. Then all of a sudden it won't idle like it should. The revs will drop to almost stalling. As soon as revs are applied it revs fine and doesn't miss. Let the throttle off and it dies down.
I can turn the car off and it will still be picky on start up.

Then all of a sudden it will pick up and be like new. I have changed all filters and plugs. I'm stumped. Royce did mention the idle solinoid but I don't know what it looks like or how to clean it.

Does it only idle bad when warm, if so you could have a car boned up throttle, thats what mine was doing.
Is there any oil where the distributor joins the block cause thats common.

Not only when its warm. It's completely random. Sometimes when cold. Started to happen one day whilst wheeling. Well, Atleast that's when I noticed it.

If it is random check your earths mate, they are critical to EFI operation.

I had a problem where it would randomly die off at idle, or sometimes was hard to get started without throttle. Turned out to be the earth on the intake manifold by the thermo. It was loose and would kill the EFI when it got moved or bumped.

mate not sure on the part number, but ring suzuki and they should be able to help.

mate mine used to do the same thing, but it doesnt seem to do it as bad anymore. i havnt changed anything either, but will still drop to about 500rpm and then slowly come back up to idle.

it used to idle but on 1 cylinder kind of thing, wouldnt move the tacho but rev it and it would live lol. let me know how you go.

Just checked them and they are all fine. Scratched the contacts while I was there.
if it helps.....with the aircon on it picks up a tiny bit but is still lower then it should be.
