Hey, quick question before I go and get myself in trouble...

Is it correct that if you try and get a road worthy, and the inspector fella can see clearly that your car has been rolled, that they will immediately put it on the written off register?

I wanna try and get my 'softly' rolled Jimny a road worthy cert so I can sell it registered, but I obviously don't wanna get it written off. It's only got external damage, which is unfortunately a dead set give away.

I would hazard a guess that its similar to the NT that a simply rolling a car doesnt automatically mean that its a write off.

In any case, your car would be a "repairable write off" which can be removed from the register after passing an inspection, as indicated here

you can always ring up the place and ask them for more information... they won't suddenly add your car to the written off register just because you rang up and asked... just tell them you're thinking of buying a car from someone else... or something like that

as for a roadworthy, It depends on how roadworthy the car is... any fuel or oil leaks? does it have all the required safety equipment in good condition? (mirrors, seatbelts etc) is there anything structurally damaged?

here's some from after the 'incident'.
The windscreen and side mirror have been replaced, but as you can see from the roof and the dents, it's obvious what happened.

what do you recon of my chances of getting a RWC?

yeah thanks for that, i'd seen this but it doesn't state what will write your car off. I called someone a while ago for an inspection and he said that being rolled would mean an automatic non-repairable write off, as they can't say for certain that the struts had not been damaged. But other ppl have disagreed. Just wondered if anyone else had the same problem be4!

Only Insurance companies can write a car off, a Mechanic / Safety cert inspector cant even stop a grossly unsafe vehicle going back on teh road, all they can do is after 2 weeks of not turning up for a reinspection after a failure is send the paperwork to DOT who may ask the cars owner in for a chat

dents may fail RWC if they create sharp edges that could hurt a pedestrian, for all they know the car was rubbed up by an elephant

A better thing to do would be approach them and ask if they can inspect it to see if it would pass, if it would get the cert made out, if it doesnt then you dont have any failure paperwork going to the DOT, and remember to pass the attitude test

What part of Brisbane are you in? I have a mate on the southside that has a guy do mobile roadworthy certs that will pass just about anything

Strangely enough, when you repair a repairable write off, before it can be inspected to determine it has been repaired using legit parts (not that its been repaired correctly) it has to pass a RWC and that has to be presented for the inspection, so old mate you called is obviously a numpty

i consider my zook to be more damaged than yours, and mine passed rego here in NSW.

it should only be a problem if its structural, and that just looks cosmetic

whats the chances of gerttin into some of the dinted panels and knockin em out so they arnt as deep? shows youre at least making an effort to repair the car..

most RWC fellas wont sign off on something that isnt legit and being sold to someone else.. at the end of the day.. it IS their johhny handcock on the bit of paper.. not yours.. their RWC license etc on the line.. not yours.. Take it to a panel shop and see what they 'quote' for a repair.. keeping in mind quotes are free.. taking it in unregistered would be a bonus in this situation, as they can then give u the low down on what IS actually damaged, and needs to be repaired and if its viable to do so.. spending a little from column A to make a profit on column B IS acceptable

And damn guys.. is all you ever think about B(.)(.)B$!!? some of you REALLY need to get laid...properly!

this is exactly what i was thinking while reading... as long as all the doors, bonnet, etc, stay shut securely, the actual pillars to the roof aren't bent and all the lights are working (obviously) and not smashed, then i dont see any logical reason that it shouldnt pass with those "battle scars"

thats my understanding/experience in the past with roadworthys as well. As long as the damage is in no way structural then they cant not pass it.
