Hey guys,

My clutch wont disengage enough to allow me to change gears. Clutch cable has been adjusted. So before I pull the gearbox off any ideas what's gone wrong? Am I just up for a new clutch? Early 80's sierra.

x2 has the cable got any more adjustment left?

also check to see if the pedal has cracked or even the firewall.

I had this once with my XF Falcon ute, turned out to be broken fingers on the pressure plate

thanks guys, the cable has been adjusted and I can feel the clutch engage/disengage with my foot well off the firewall. It just doesn't disengage enough for me to put it in gear.
I'm thinking broken fingers or similar too, thanks Scrawnc. I guess I'm up for a new clutch

I had a similar issue, replace your clutch cable first. It's highly likely to be that.

I got stuck at stockton whena similar thing happened. Clutch cable didn't look to bad but I had to drive 250km home without a clutch pedal, I thought I'd have to replace the clutch. Also it won't hurt to replace the cable it's probably stretched and old, then you know it won't break next time

If the clutch cable was snapped the pedal wouldn't do anything. But it kinda half works. If it was stretched then I could just adjust it, there is heaps left in it. But thanks for the suggestions

I'd be doing the clutch cable first.............

But others have mentioned that..

Did you adjust the clutch urself? If not check how much free play the clutch fork arm has at the gearbox.
I have seen wannabe machanics try to adjust A clutch before and just make a mess of it.

keep adjusting it & see if it makes it any better.

Nah I'm not saying it's snapped. With mine the only problem was that the the outer housing was not so good, apart from that it looked fine, moved the leaver on the housing and everything just not matter how much I tightened it it didn't tighten enough.

Here's a tip, get a wrecking bar and put it behind the clutch leaver bit on the bell housing and try and leaver the clutch on, $10 says if you try this I'll be proven right if not I'll stop talking (texting)

I still reckon it'll be the cable, hanging for the I told you so hehe lol
