I have a 98 Jim, G13bb. About two years ago I had the main seal done and another seal replaced higher up on the back of the engine. I dont know what that one was.
It looks like that second one may be leaking again as there is oil all over the top of the gearbox at the back of the engine which is dripping down and off the bottom of the gearbox. The sump and bottom-front of the bellhousing are still relatively dry so i don think its the main seal again.
Does anyone have an idea of what is actually leaking? Its hard to see in back there.

This little engine is only 1500km shy of 200,000 but it still runs really well with plenty of go. It burns (or leaks) a little bit of oil (~1 litre every 5-6000km, not visibly smoking, only on start up) which I suspect is more to do with worn valve stem seals than rings.
The dilemma I have is what to do when I decide to do some major engine maintenance. Should I drop in a short 1.6 block and get this head reco'd? (would this old head handle the 1.6?) Is it worth doing the sawp or a complete reco now and fix all the oil leaks at the same time? or keep feeding it oil and run the little donk til it's totally poked which may be at 300kkm.

Your opinions please!

It is probably leaking out of the distributor housing.

It has no distributor as such. Where the distributor would be on a g13a is a cam angle sensor(?).
Though I think you might be right. The rocker cover join looks oily but its not really wet oil like below it.

What is behind it? Coolant or oil? I cant really tell if the oil is leaking from here but if its to stop coolant gushing out then obviously not.

Blanking plate is coolant, its where the thermostat housing and top hose goes on fwd engines

I would say its the cam sensor seal again, seals dont last that long

now I can see that pic :) the leaking thing is above that one right, and that plate is lower than the centerline of the cam?

no idea on replacing, when you do it on engines with a dizzy you undo the bolts, slide it off, replace teh oring and slide it back in, making sure the same teeth engage so your timing isnt out
