Im fitting LED indicators/parker lights to the GV (in addition to the stock ones) - the rectangular ones in the link below

These LEDs are a sealed unit, with 3 wires - one for indicator, one for parkers, and one for ground. I've connected all 3 wires to the 3 wires on the back of the headlight - in effect, all paralell.

The LED indicator works fine, (with park lights off) as long as all 3 wires are just connected. If just the indicator and ground wires are connected nothing happens.

Also...
LED Parker light will not work. Stock one will.
LED Indicators will not work when park lights switched on. They'll work again when park light switched off.
At some point the stock park light bulb will blow. Happened twice now.

I've also tried connecting the LED wires directly to the battery - nothing happens - so im assuming theres some kind of circuit inside the sealed unit.

Now - i know from when wiring up the spotties to the highbeam that the GV has negatively switched circuits. This doesn't seem to be the case with the parker light, as i've checked it with a multimeter - it has 12v when swtiched on, and 0v when switched off.

Summary
- LED indicator works fine (until i switch the park light on).
- LED park light doesn't work at all, and keeps blowing the stock bulb.
- unit connected in paralell to stock wiring

Question - Anyone know what i should do??

Kinda sound's like a bad earth, do a continuity check with your multi at earth wire & body..

Didn't think of that....but being LED's i don't think they'll work with polarity reversed.....could be wrong though....all the bloody wiring in the GV is backwards! :roll: :lol:

yeh.. kind of sounds like it is earthing out through the park light globe.. and would explain why the park lights arent working.

I got curious so i just went out and tried it - nothing, not even the indicator works.

Tomorrow i'll try connecting the ground wire directly to the battery, this will determine if it is actually an earthing problem - once i buy a box of new parker globes! :lol:

pull the damn things out and try em with just a battery, confirm you get indicator, then parker without moving the earth wire then both together

Do you have a Brown, white and yellow or green wire on the light?

Tried that already. Nothing works at all connected directly to the battery - hence why im thinking it has some inbuild circuit

wires are yellow (indicator), white (parker), and black (ground)

direct to teh battery

in 125% of LED lights ive seen they share trailer wiring colour codes, which is usually white earth, yellow or green indicator and brown for parker

you know the yellow is indicator something, hook that to battery positive and one at a time hook the other wires to negative, one will light up the indicator, in theory the other is parker positve

if nothing lights up then try yellow on the negative and repeat the one at a time hook up to positive on the other 2, sooner or later youll get a combo that works or a wire that does nothing and somethings faulty

dont even bother trying to wire it to teh stock light wiring yet till you are sure they work and whats what

thats your problem, try doing it at night so you can see if they are lighting up....

pretty much all 12v stuff use white as the earth apparantley im told that is the 'international' colour for earth. we ahve lights on our vans that have a white and a black wire and the white is earth.

and not all leds are polarity sensitive but pretty much all are.

All LED's are polarity sensitive, because they are diodes.
Light Emiting Diodes in fact (LED).

IF you can't manage to get the LED's to work straight off the battery you will never get them working from the standard loom.

There is a finite number of wire combinations (6) and with LED's only one way will work.

I've now tested the LEDs direct to the battery - and who would have thought, white is negative!! So much for assuming black is negative....

quickly hooked it up to the headlight too - didn't work though, im guessing coz the parker is blown at the moment. Should get time later this week to pull the head light assy out again to replace the bulb, then we'll try again.

Ok i've finally found the problem. 8)

What i originally did was make a small loom about 40 cm long, that i soldered to the correct wires at the back of the headlight. This is because the wires on the LED weren't long enough to reach.

Turns out that one of the wires i used in the loom had no continuity! Must have been broken in the sheath somewhere, and this was causing all the problems.

Replaced that one wire in the loom and all works perfectly now. This was after i tested every joint/bulb/wire with a test light and multimeter before i found it.

Lesson - always use new wires and no beer before hand! :roll: :lol:
