whats the easiest way of getting more power out of the g16b.
have a fair bit of room under the bonnet thanks to the body lift so just want to know what your opinions are

drop $7-10K on a turbo install.

Post subject:  Re: need more power

i think if i had the money i would find a v6 out of a vit and put in it.
i have baleno injectors just thinking if there are any bigger then that and if there is any way to mod the fuel pump so can pump more fuel obviously.

Wouldnt mind a turbo and intercooler tho

might look into that

its also rather expensive, and for a whole 10sec it might be better

even more expensive when ya pour a FIZZY DRINK in a motor that is running ok in a vain attempt at gaining more 'power'

FYI, you're wasting you time chasing more power when you should be fixing the gearing.

Post subject:  Re: need more power

yea gearing is getting delt with at the moment, figuring brackets now to get the sierra box in

x2
any money on gearing is well spent
haha might save having to do the clutch again soon?

Post subject:  Re: need more power

yea didn really need to slip the clutch on the weekend managed to idle pretty well up most the tracks, the 1.6 helps a lot but will be better with the lower gearing.
only time i slipped the clutch heaps was trying to drive up the log at the end. but the clutch held up well

Post subject:  Re: need more power

once you've done the gearing, so long as you gear it right, you wont be wanting for more power (well, ok you will, but you wont need it).

What made u come out with this idea??
Better do some more research, just pumping more fuel aint gonna give you any gains.

Geeze, I didn't know it was a drag race out in front. I'm sure the mighty G13B would have shown you both up :P

...or at least convincing myself it would have keeps a couple of grand in my pocket! :D

Post subject:  Re: need more power

i have to admit i have always wanted more power, till i got gearing.

do u want it faster on the road or in the bush??

Author:  smiffkid [ Wed Dec 01, 2010 9:42 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: need more power

power in always good, expecially in sand and on the highway, my car does alot of long trips and beach runs.
but will see how it goes once the gearing is in.
the more air and oxygen u get into the motor the better it will go, wont make a huge increase but it will be a bit better

Post subject:  Re: need more power

whats the standard jimny tcase ratio compated to sierra box?? running 31's you're up about 20% in tyre size, so if the sierra box isnt a 20% reduction, then you might want some 4.16 tcase gears in the sierra box before you fit it up.

The goal should be to get the jimny as close as possible to stock gearing with the 31s, maybe a touch lower to counter rotational weight of the tyres (although the 1.6 does that).

Post subject:  Re: need more power

well i think, not 100 percent sure but there is about 15% in high range and 70 or 80 in low. i dnt no but thats what i have been told. ill put it in and see how it goes its only 15 bolt and its out again

Author:  alien [ Wed Dec 01, 2010 10:52 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: need more power

i wouldnt bother dude... 15% aint enough... chuck in a 4.16 gear set for sure.

$700 well spent i reckon.

Post subject:  Re: need more power

As above, gearing is the solution.

Your planned upgrades to fuel (bigger injectors/pumps) will give you zero performance gain and if the car runs at all, it will most likely use too much fuel and run like a pig.

Your factory injectors don't run at 100% capacity as the engine does not breathe enough air to need that.
To make power, you need to get the engine breathing more air then adjust the tune to provide the correct amount of fuel to achieve the stoich AFR.

The easiest methods are intake/exhaust. higher flowing filter, bigger throttle body, cams, ported head, etc.
The harder option is forced induction through it various means, and the dollars and headaches associated with it.

x 2 fitting bigger injectors and havin no way to supply more air is a step backwards :? it will over fuel and run like shit. also you would have to re map or get a stand alone ecu

Post subject:  Re: need more power

15 would be plenty for high range alien.
low range is my biggest problem. will see how it goes once its in

Author:  alien [ Thu Dec 02, 2010 8:31 am ]
Post subject:  Re: need more power

yeah i dunno man... you'll still have the gearing issue going up hills on road at highway speeds... and the 4.16 tcase drops low range 84% over standard sierra - so if you're right about the 70odd% lower standard case then you're headed around a 150% low range reduction... which is spot on! (my 5.14 gears do 183% low range, and i use 1st low a lot!).

yea will see
gotta make jigs and all sorts of fancy shit so i can set it up for the bracketry.
hopefully it will be in buy our next trip to the powerlines

why don't you post up the next powerlines trip when the box is almost done? give me a week or so notice and i should be ok to come along for the big test =)
