very simple question. need some advice on this kit i have found

reco kit

my engine has shit itself and its getting a rebuild. my bores are a bit oval shape so im getting my engine bored out to 1.0mm (40 thou). its already bored out to 0.50mm(20 thou). just wondering if this kit is the right one. and is any good. sorry for starting a new thread

Who is doing the honing on the block. Most engineering places will get the parts that you need. Even though there is probably nothing wrong with that kit I would go for something like an ACL kit, trusted name and quality

Not sure whos doing it yet but i thought it would be cheaper for me to buy the kit then take the piston in so they can bore it out to size. This kit has every thing i need.

You may run into problems if the block doesn't clean up on the 1mm oversize.

If you supply the parts, you will need to buy a second set of pistons and rings to go bigger if the block is excessively worn.

Are you saying if they bore it out to 40 thou nd stuff it i would have to buy a second lot of piston that are 60 thou

No, I am saying if they bore it 40thou and the bore doesn't clean up due to excessive wear you will need to buy a second set of pistons.

not so much the machinist stuffing it but more if 1mm oversize isn't enough.

the first step is to have the block measured correctly by whoever you are going to get to do the work.

Ok dont wannaa fork out more money for a second lot of piston. So ill just let the shop do every thing. just thought geting every thing myself and doing it myself nd just geting them to bore it out will be a bit cheaper

You can still get them to just bore it but wait till they have before buying. They will know or can find the sizes they need to bore to whatever oversize is needed.

rightio ill get them to meassure my bores and see if they can bore it out to 40 thou. if i get the ok ill go buy every thing and do it my self

im in the same boat (no engine issues, just looking at kits). i decided ages back to not make it a weekend job because as everyone has said, wait until its been bored out properly before buying the kits so you can be 100% sure that you have exactly what you need...

on the topic, what brands do people recommend as a high quality kit? something that is designed for a daily drive but can handle being wrung around the neck...
