Post subject:  rust eliminator
im about to cut some rust out and have come across a product called POR15 has anybody used this product? is it as good as they claim or do you know of a better product?

Phosphoric acid. If it has that stuff in it, its the stuff. I don't know the science behind it, but what it reacts with the rust and turns it into another for of iron. If it has something else, with flash advertising and blingy labels and "product recommendations", its probably shit :D
Personally I have used the phosphoric acid and also I have install a coupletec rust protection systems cause im sick of cutting out the rust and finding more! It was just shy of $500, but its been on for 3 months now and its doing its job.

i found this product on youtube belive it or not, the guy swore by it black and blue so thats why im unsure about it.
started kit costs around $50 but freight is more like $150

I'm painting my interior/diffs/chassis in the full complement of POR15 products over the christmas break, lanolin coating inside panels and fitting a HD couplertec kit to suit.
My zook has way to much bare metal for the amount of time it spends on the beach.

After my research, POR15 products were the best of their type.

I'll give some feedback once it's done.

using phosphoric acid creates a very thing layer or iron phosphate which is resistant to oxidisation.

keep us posted mate id love to know how it goes.

perhaps using phosphoric acid and POR15 together wouldnt be such a bad idea as i will be doin a fair amount of beach driving

I belive you would be better off using a sacrifical zinc spray product and then a sealing cavity parrifin wax with rust inhibitors.
Steel wont rust if its properly sealed

I have used POR15 on my bullbar and its worked great, quite a few blokes at work use it as well. One of the blokes at work is also restoring a Vdub and the club he is in all use the stuff underneath their paint, especially in engine bay. So it is good stuff.
Problem is though, is the limited shelf life as it cures with moisture.
