Hi,

Looking at building a dirtbike rack to fit on the vit, I can make it strong enough but I'm worried about to much weight behind the rear wheels while driving up sand dunes. Bike weighs about 88kg's dry and the rack will weigh around 30kg?? maybe. I don't want to be wheel standing to easy.

Let me know what you think

That's an interesting way of doing it. Sweet it's like an A-Frame for a bike. I might look into something like that at least I'd get the weight down. My tow bar is only rated to 80kg of downward force so I'd have to build something.

Like someone said in the post I wonder if it's legal.

Problem is it drags your wheel, so you still get bearing/tyre/chain/sprocket wear.

There are plenty of those type available for purchase if you look for them for ideas.

For ideas you could also look at the golf ones - people have small 50/75s for golf buggys, they usually attach onto a tow bar , but are lighter...but you could have a look to get ideas.

Legality is answered in the post below. If the bike is reg'd then its fine. I've seen these setup plenty of times...

Thanks for the help guys. Sucks that the bike needs to be registered as mine isn't.

Any suggestions on having the bike off the ground on the rear bar, to much weight behind? or is my butt up front enough to help balance?

ive had thoughts about such things and if you google youll get some ideas

make a trailer, hitch at one end of some 50mm RHS thats long enough for the bike to sit on top with a bit extra

then weld some wider C section along the top and some stays at the front to run straps up to teh forks

for the axle get a single leaf spring with a flat section either end, bolted in the centre to your RHS and stub axles either side with some little tyres, put the axle so you are on the right ball weight and the back isnt going to drag on the ground and your laughing :)
