Hey I'm looking at getting a Sierra and its soft top. I'm not to sure with how easy it would be to break into, like at the shops and that. just say your opinions about it please.

ive had my soft top sierra for ages and never had anything taken out of it, even with the back left up sometimes. i have a little money box in there for my small goodies which is attatched to my seats via wire as my glove box doesnt lock. however im on the sunnycoast and dont park in derellict areas i think you'd be more prone in the city to get stuff taken.

nice hardtop on ebay ... its mine. with all this rain its a great option too

yeah, just lock the glove box. but also just the whole thing being stolen. wouldnt surprise me with some of the young kids now. like im young too, only 17, but these other guys are just little thugs.

had my brand new 1 day old tool kit stolen outta the back of mine last night. was out camping at davies creek fnq and someone must have just undid the back clips and taken what they like.

looking at securing it, without converting to a hard canopy. open to all ideas. :)

You just have to realise that security is basically non-existent in a soft top. Yes, there is "scare tactics" and shit to try and prevent it, but at the end of the day it's not hard to unzip a softtop or pull out your trusty old blade and slice your way in.

Simple fact; dont leave anything of value in your softtop fourby

im not a handy man, i live in subrurbs in brisbane with out a shed or tools, however my friends dad is an engineer with a huge shed and loads of tools, welders etc. but im still shit :P

I'll give you $7.30...

seriously though, it looks great! personally i'd ditch the "roll bar", make the lid on top larger (all the way to the sides as far as possible) and somehow adjust the back so the rear door can still swing open (mines not welded shut lol). perhaps rather than fixing it, the lip over the back could have a 45 angle on it and overhang the rear door slightly to keep it water-tight, but still allow the door to swing past? Last idea would be to lose the checkerplate and use aluminium sheets to keep weight down =)

ooo a new pic... yeh i like to be able to put stuff all the way in to the seats (like when i got my new rims, all 4 just fitted layed down in the back jammed against the seats and the rear door jusssst closed)

Yeah I have a sketch here of how I ould do it without the welded tailgate. And the whole assembly weighed like 25 or 30kgs. Tanshi has had it for a few years now.

where the rear window meets the new tray-top, is there a 90 degree bend there to stop water coming in through the velcro join?

YEP. It was about 75mm high if I remember correctly

awesome.

that sir is a composite panel... its 2 sheets of aluminium with an aluminium honeycomb core... the core (as pictured) is vertical to the outer sheets... you then have the option of a veneer (shown in blue) to give it texture/colour.

So a 6mm thick sheet is made of about a quarter the material but still has the strength of a 5mm or so plate.

a 10mm thick panel weighs only 3.4kg per square meter!
