OK I'm thinking about putting a second battery in the GV but of course there is no space anywhere for one in the front so I have been looking and have come up with this.

There is a false floor in the back big enough for

3 x these

&

Of course I will need one of these

So my question is since the second battery is not the same size (smaller) and type (sealed) of the primary battery will this set up be ok? or do I need something special because the batteries are not the same size as each other?

Don't need to do anything special for SLA's.

I've had some bad experiences with Jaycar quality though. The battery would be fine but not sure about the Isolator. For similar price you can buy better units. Check out BEP which are for marine use. Whitworth's is good and prices are online.

If wiring battery in parallel just need to make sure you wire the pos/neg the correct way.

Good idea, wrong batteries

SLA aren't AGM, SLA need higher charge voltage and youll notice they say they are dangerous goods, that means they arent sealed

Look at a suitable size battery in Fullriver or Remco or the like

There are Dual Battery trays available for the GV, and they mount under the bonnet, here is one on ebay, but there are others cheaper on ebay, they just arnt listed up yet -

And i remember someone else here with a GV, mounting a 2nd battery where the radiator overflow bottle is...
I was going to put a battery inside my old Vit, with a 5watt marine Solar Panel on the roof, and connected to it, instead of charging off the alt, more as just a backup, or for running lowish power items off... But if you come up with a good and safe method for putting a battery inside, i would be interested to see how you do it

Yes you can get those battery trays for the GV - just over 200 bucks last i checked.

The only thing is that even with these trays you will need to relocate the radiator overflow bottle to make room - i got some pics here http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... pic&t=6234

I haven't gotten round to it yet but i have bought a steel battery tray from super cheap - about 15 bucks, and will make my own brackets to bolt it in....better than paying 200 bucks for a smallish sized tray

Shabz that piranha off road tray is crap it only fits a tiny battery, and you need to file off the top of the terminals so it wont touch the bonnet way too dangerous and close for my liking.
I also have ABS so it wont fit on the passenger side so there is no where to fit anything else unless you get really up close and personal with the engine (and its heat) which will reduce the battery life and performance.

you're right it only fits a tiny battery - which is why i've decided to make my own - still have to figure out what to do with the washer bottle though.

I've put it on hold for my GV at the moment - working on a winch bar
