hey guys replacing my uni joints but cant get the bloody things out.
i have my driveshaft out.

is there a quick and painless way to do this

hahahha i just went through this... we ended up cutting the cap a little to get the uni out, then put a socket each side of the cap and pressed it out in a vice - even then it took a 90kg bloke putting all his weight into the vice to get it to budge.

they always give me greif - remove all circlips then find a socket slightly smaller (nearly the same) as the uni cap, place shaft in vice taking care not to damage the shaft, place socket over uni cap and smash fuck out of it with a big hammer then flip over and do that to the opposite side, nows about the time i'd start swearing and get the angle grinder out and carefully slice that sucker out, then more hammer time and bingo half way there

Seriously, I just got my jack shaft done at a local place in brissy, cost me $95 dollars to fit x2 and supply x1

And it comes back ready to bolt in, no fuss, no swearing and it looks preddy

i have a press and a system, it takes me all of 20mins to change one if the shaft is out.

1: sit the uni cups, that your not pressing out on a large chunk of metal that will hold the bottom uni off the off the press bed.
2: get a socket the same size as the uni cup and press away.
3: repeat this till all cups are out, then put it back together on concrete with a brass drift.

Once it has the cir clips on make sure you give the shaft a quick little tap with a small hammer to reset all the needles and make sure it turns freely

I did it the most obvious way to me the first time and then had a terrible time trying to straighten out the flange and file out the circlip groove...

yea i did what mrRocky did haha
got a quater inch ectension and smashed it, even then had to get dad to smash it
any way got it in and feels alot smoother driv until 80 on the speedo, very bad vibration, could i have put it in wrong.

The balance could now be out a bit? Are the uni's seated correctly? If greasable did you grease them? Shafts seated correctly and tightened?My way is so much easier. They are a delicate thing.

did you mark the spline and the shaft to make sure you got it back in phase? if not, its going to be a lot of trial and error to find the right spot again...

Or just line up the dots provided.

hmmm no i didn't. danm alright have a look tomorrow.
i forgot to mention it is the shaft from the transmission to the transfer, are those dots still there
i think i broke my index with the hammer earlier.

There are no alignment dots on the jackshaft, only front & rear tailshafts.

i put a lockright locker in the rear earier. done professionaly, would that vibrate the whole car so badly
