Hey guys, my mate is in the business of importing 4wd accessories and has just asked me if I recon this calmini kit would sell here
http://72.34.32.141/~snakerac/product_i ... 6502d0c663
He will be able to undercut snake racing by quite a bit I think.
So how many people on here would be interested in this kit, and would it be worthwhile for him to follow this up?
He will also bring in the NT kit and I'm guessing he will be able to source kits for the vits and jimnys too.
What do you think??

No he won't. Calmini only sell to their dealer network, which is 2 companies, snake being one of them. Best of luck to your mate.
PS. 5" lift on a sierra is just dumb. Any company that endorses such a kit is also dumb.

The calmini 5" kit is worse than terrible. The front arms and diff drop brackets from the vitara kit are okay, so long as you like imperial holes for metric hardware, but you have to buy the dumb heim jointed A arm and craptastic struts to get the good bits.
Is it so hard to buy metric drills in the US?

He already has a source for these kits, he hasn't committed to anything he just asked me to throw it out there to see if there would be any interest.
Why is 5in so dumb?? Most of us are running at least 4in of lift via a combo of suspension and body lift, add extended shackles (like a few on here have) and you're at 5in

Its dumb cos everyone on here reckons it is.. Either way im aiming for 4inchs of spring left.. See if we can annoy the peanut gallery.
And from everything i read calmini 5inchs are crap for flex.

Thanks Guys, I've never used this kit myself so don't know much about it other than what they say on their product discription. Like I said, I'm just throwing it out there to gauge interest, judging by your responses, I will tell him not to bother with this kit.
Thanks,
Nathan

from what i understand any springs over 2inch have trob flexing because they have to be alot stiffer to hold the car up that extra inch or 2 ?
is this correct ?

Yeah, from memory shep is running 4in leafs in the rear and 3in leafs up front and he gets some good flex in his pics. The leafs in this kit are the 3in ones with the shackle reversal giving another 2in.

I was referencing the only calmini parts that are worth using in anything.
The 5" sierra kit is insanely stiff, and uses a shackle reversal, which is pointless.
GRPABT1 on outers ran one, but he used "soft" springs and I think still derated the springs further.
PS nato - Bodylift is used to clear tyres. Suspension lift doesn't clear tyres, so 5" of lift is lost stability and ruined ride for no other gain.

If your lifting your body/chassis further away from your axel, you can fit a bigger tyre... If I remove my lift my tyres wont fit. short of chopping guards, and upwards flex is limited by extended bump stops. If its lifted properly you can still keep stability, and who ever lifts anything to improve on road ride?

If your bumpstops are positioned to prevent your tyres hitting the guards then you're only running suspension lift to provide compression travel, which has nothing to do with stability or flex.

i have the calmini 5" springs and after 7-8 years they still give me a sore neck and average flex, in another 7 yrs i reckon they will be just right.

Steve.
By compression travel are you referring to downward travel of one wheel caused by pivoting off the opposite bump stop? If so how is that any different to flex?

mine is the 5 inch kit but i threw away all the bits that i didnt like.
i kept. 1 rear brake line, rear shocks, front u- bolt plate thing and the springs.
the full kit was on a car wreck i bought and i have no idea how old it is. i wouldn't mind some new
rear springs as mine have lost there load carrying ability and are to soft.

i think it is 3 in the front and 4 rear, but ya have to extend the shackles as
the springs are too long and invert all the time. so really i have 4 front and 5 rear.
