Hi everyone just purchased a Zook from the ACT and want too know what i will need to do to get registered with the 1.6 Conversion. Some people say to just get the RTA to change the engine number, Do you think the RTA will know that it has a 1.6 in it? Does anyone from WA know the process involved. Thanks In Advance. |

do it properly - you need to take it over the pits to get WA rego anyway, so you might as well have the engine approved at the same time. |

The Conversion has already been done on the Zook. It's a tidy little car, i think it may need to be engineered in WA, please correct me if i'm wrong. |

mmm i dont think it needs engineering as such... my engine was a straight "i put a 1.6 in" they asked "who fitted it" i said "suzistore" they said "ok then" and signed off on it... didnt even check it over. might have changed now - you're best calling the department of transport and getting it from the horses mouth. |

Just take it to the pits and get it inspected. We have taken several to the pits before. If the vehicle is roadworthy not lifted above 50mm and no Body lift or extended hangers and the conversion has been done properly it should go straight over and they will just change the engine number. We are going to do a 1.6 Mpi in the next month and have no concerns of it failing. |

A G16 won't need to be engineered in WA. The lift may be a problem going over the pits, and the 31s if you bought it with them... |

I have 5x stock rims here with matching 205/70R15 tyres ... all got about 80% tread from memory. Again you're welcome to borrow them if you need them for rego =) |

Sorry to bring up an old thread but couldn't find any other information and being 3 years ago things may have changed. I'm just about to start my conversion. Does the 1.6 need to be engineered to pass pits I currently have 2inch sus and will be getting a 50mm body lift so the engine will fit, will I need to change the sus back to stock to get it over the pits? The car is currently registered, would rather get the engine registered under the car for safe keeping and peace of mind. Is there anything I need to know before I get started? Cheers |

You dont need body lift to fit a 1.6... i don't have one and mine fits just fine. There's a dodgy way of doing it however... tell transport you have a new motor (same capacity) and have the engine number changed. They dont know g13 and g16 designate capacity. It wont cover you on insurance etc, but at least the numbers will match their records. You can do this without going over the pits. If you say engine swap, technically that is all they are allowed to inspect as you've not been yellow stickered. They can fail you but they can't yellow you or take you off the road. You could chance it and just try all the pits and hope you get someone in a good mood that only looks at the motor as requested. |

They definately wont pass 31"s or body lift 1.6 is no drama getting it over, might i reccomend taking it to an accredited workshop rather than a dpi inspection center normally they are super flexible and quite fair. That being said even most dpi center will pass it as long as its tidy not oily |

Cheers guys for the response i think ill end up giving aliens method a go first saves a lot of hassle and then if that fails go down the road of taking it over pits and hoping they don't yellow sticker me. Alien are you sure you dot need a body lift? I'm putting a g16b from a 94 vitara into mine heard if you don't use a body lift the top of the engine hits the bonnet? If I can get away without that would be even better! ( less money, less time and less "cop bait") Cheers |

You just need to make sure you have a widetrack bonnet you have zero chance getting it under a n/t bonnet. I have done a few of these conversions now so this is first hand info. The intake hose may rub a tiny bit on one of the bonnet ribs but you can flatten it a little bit. You will 100% not get it passed with a bodylift. |

Cheers MrRocky For that clarification want the conversion to be as legal as possible, won't be using a body lift as I have a wide track sierra and assuming it has a wide track bonnet. Thanks again will have saved me time and money. |
