G'day

i managed to snap my traction bar after 1 year of use. it was a kit from here:
http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/sky-bolt ... -3784.html

broken parts, below. i couldn't find that broken part which fell off. it's somewhere along the track... :)

it's easy fix, i just need a new pipe cut off bracket and that end where bush sits and get it welded to the new pipe.

my problem is i can't find a piece of pipe with 32mm inside diameter. that piece which slide inside bigger (broken) pipe has 32mm outside diameter. i've been in few shops and they have 32NB pipes, but they way to big (inside diameter is not 32mm as nominal bore size 32NB would suggest)

my question:

has anyone know a steel supplier in Sydney i could source pipe of that size, or two different pipes where one fits tight into another?
I know people are making track bars, and they have those two different size pipes required for the job.
thanks a lot in advance.
i'm going for holiday soon and need to fix that quickly

can you get the dimensions of the remaining bit? it might be tube not pipe

i'll get it tomorrow. i'm at work now.

its 32mm inside diameter and about 3mm thick walls from memory, so around 38-39mm outside diameter. i expect it being imperial.

what is the difference between tube and pipe?

tube is solid.
Pipe is hollow...

pipe is identified by a nominal bore and schedule that really dont mean anything compared to their real size

tube is identified by its real measured OD and wall thickness, both imperial and metric

If the wall is a whole mm measurement and not like 3.2 its tube, no pipe is a full mm wall thickness

Thats where my arm material is from :D
I deal with Stuart, Nice bloke.

This sky shit seems to be a design fault...1st pics. When the bar is extended, it forces the end tube only, to flex, and snap at the end of the weld acting as a weak point from the leaverage. Last pic is stronger, and will share the twist load.

thanks, PM sent Tim

i can't see the point of warranty claim just for the broken pipe, i would have to pay for shipping cost, probably more than the prize of steal tube here

i wonder, if i lengthen the tubes making them stronger, what can break next? hopefully not diff housing

sketch with dimensions (only phone photo):

I had a quick look at a chart today, 32nb extra strong (or Schedule 80) pipe will give you a 32.5mm ID, will be only available in seamless

thanks royce, what means schedule 80?

i worked for a while for plumbers and they used that name for a pressure, but plastic pipes. similar to abs pipes

in that case it may mean "heavy duty" application, thicker walls, or pressure pipe

Bluesuzy will look for these pipes for me at his steel supplier. yess!! :youdaman:
