I know it's been done to death but I just want to make sure I'm choosing the right size for my needs.

I've finally worn down my 30" BFG's and I need another set of muddies. I've made my mind up on brand, but still unsure on size. BTW. going on a 3"+2" vit.

31's will fit without cutting the guards. I have trial fitted a 31 and am a little unimpressed of the extra height gained.

32's well biggerer is gooderer right? they can still fit, but I'll have to do some hacking so it doesn't rub on flex, which means I will also need get new flares and make a few brackets so they can be fitted. I'm not too keen on doing this.

As for gearing, I'll have that sorted out eventually.

if ur got a body lift 32 should fit pretty easy
as long as there narrow on a + offset rim u should be right

I just put 32" on my swb vit today 2 inch suspension lift 50mm coil spacers and 2" body lift i had to do a bit of bashing on the gaurds but i have got -13 offset wheels looks the goods but

31's are pretty horrible with no gearing.. not completely hopeless but... 32's + 1.6L... = Epic fail

hmm this is making me somewhat even more confused

I'm leaning towards 31's but again I'd like to use the vit setup to it's full potential.

My 33's on stock gearing made me a 4 speed. Now with gears I'm a 5 speed again! In my old zook 30's were very bearable. And in joels car we even hit 110ks an hour! Which would really Be more cause his speedo was out due to 31's. Moral of the story. Get gears.

FYI it's a vitara, high range gearing is almost impossible to correct unless you either get the undertaker or find some 5.3:1 or the mythical 5.8:1 diff gears.

High range in vit's arn't changed like sierra's are.

32's = $260

In the first couple of months learning how to drive the vit I broke 2 CV's with 30's. Since learning a few things I havn't broke one for at least 8 months and I have pushed it harder than when it broke. So I put it down to driver error.

will an inch make a difference? I dunno, most girls tend to think it does.

32" are fine. I ran a 32" wrangler and didn't have an dramas. Yes, lowering the ratio's wouldve been idea but it still wasn't bad. Could sit on 100kmph all day every day.

I ran 3" calmini and 2" BL. I had to chop into my front guards and a bit of rear bar modification to make them clear on compression...but I was running a -44 15x8 rim.

I say do it. If you decide you don't like it, sell them and go smaller.

It was a bit fast in low but still drivable.

Well, It seems that 31's are the go for me.
I wouldn't want to sit in 4th gear along a freeway revving it's tits off.
Cost is another factor as well has having to modify the body for them and it would look like crap for when I have the AT's on.

Huh?? Chopped guards are hardly crap looking. Just like any car, if u mark it and do it correctly it will look fine. Just like a Sierra virtual lift.

And it never "revved it tits off". I could've done 100 in fifth, but I never really got it cruising up there anyway.

31's are a very common size, making them cheaper, easier to get,
especially in the out back.
Many new 4wd owners shed their 31's to go bigger,
meaning a 2nd hand supply of good rubber for us.
These are my reasons for sticking to 31's.
Even tho heart wants 33 x 10's

if you went to a 32" tyre, i'd be aiming for a 9.5, after running 30x9.5's, then 31x10.5's in the same tread pattern & IMO it drove better on the 9.5's, but the extra height from the 31's won out.

the 235x75r15 Insa Turbo's simex copies that i've run for the last couple of weeks are essentially a 31x9.5 & as chunky as they are they don't tramline as much as the 10.5's.

It is all dependent on driving style and plans for it. If all you do is play in the mud, no gearing is fine. But if you touch rocks. Lower gearing will take alot of stress of your gear under your car.

sikid was running thicker that 10.5" tyres. That makes the tyres a hell of alot heavier.

Id just go a decent set of 31" tyres. if you dont plan on gearing. for half an inch worth of diff clearence, an extra 200 dollars is a fair bit of fuel money.

Depends on what you use it for and what you are hoping to achieve though. I wanted more diff clearance and for it to be less "look at me" to the general public. Nothing screams I'm modified more than fat rubber, especially on small cars like zooks, so going up to the 235/85/16s suited me perfectly.

With the calmini lift stretching the wheelbase ever so slightly you should be able to run the 32s with minimal chopping if you stuck to narrow ones on small/zero offset rims.

Gearing is going to be your main hurdle. I presume your Vit had 5.12s from the factory so you are shit out of luck already. If its a daily driver or used on the road often I'd keep with the 31s me thinks. If its just a weekend toy than pffft go the big uns
