This was mentioned in a post by fordem as a way to read the Suzuki specific diagnostic port.

Seeing I had never heard of it (few familiar faces on their forum too, thanks for holding out on us  ) ive wasted no time ordering a lead so I can drive around everywhere looking at my laptop rather than the road (I hope it has a danger to manifold warning)

So I started this thread so I can post about it when I get it and in the meantime anyone with any experience might put some thoughts up, it appears with other software it might be possible to adjsut the fuel and timing tables as well? IE tune to suit a turbo or similar?

So pretty much anyone with an EFI powered zook can use this?
Looks VERY handy.

I've been looking for an scan gauge type of set up on and off for the last couple of years & I'm pretty sure fordem pointed me to that site a while ago, should have had a better look around. If it is tuneable, that would be a whole extra bonus.

What was the postage cost like?

I didn't know you could program with it, now that would be the shit armsup

As far as I'm aware, you can't program the Suzuki ECUs via the SDL, at least not the one in my GV - however - James is the man to ask - join the forum and I'm sure you'll get your questions answered.

Yeah I wasnt sure on that, I had jsut seen a reference to other software that looked like it might do that but I hadnt looked too much, itmight only be for extracting the maps or something

Yea from what ive heard you can extract the data but not modify it yet. Damo has been on there for a while, maybe he knows teh stuff!

Post subject:  Re: Rhinopower

It kinds of depends on the ECU itself - some have "flashable CPUs", some don't, some have EPROMs that can be swapped some don't - I haven't paid too much attention to that aspect for two reasons, mine isn't and I'm not really into the "more power" modification thing - at least not on my GV.

Being able to read the ECU wold be awesome. It can also reset error codes can't it?

The latest version can reset error codes - on my 98 2.0 GV I can see speed, rpm, coolant temp, intake air temp, injector pulse width & battery voltage - there are also MAF & MAP, O2 sensing, long & short term fuel trim and ignition advance inputs, along with a series of status flags but not all vehicles will support all of these sensors

Rhinoview is a "work in progress" and may or may not already have a configuration file for your ECU - if it doesn't then you'll have to create your own - which is not difficult to do.

So dose it just plug straight in the 6 pin diagnostic plug or is it a different one

Author:  atari4x4 [ Mon May 16, 2011 1:39 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Rhinopower

it plugs into the diagnostic plug under the dash which looks like an OBDII port but only populated in a few pins

Hi Everyone
Royce pointed me over here, I see Fordem got here first :)
The SDL interface was originally designed to help me with hacking ECUs, I released it as a product after requests from a number of people. There are a number of different mappings for the ECUs, the information that I have comes from hacking ECUs, logging a Tech1 and from people working with me on their vehicles, the database is growing all the time.
There are many different types of Zuk ECUs, some of the early ones have EPROMs that can be remapped, some of the 1998on Densos have reflashable ECUs, originally these had programming pads on the PCB. A switch can be wired to these on put the ECU into programming mode, later types have the programming pins brought out to the main connector. I have been working on this protocol with a guy from Greece with a Jimny ECU being the test ECU, we are very close to being able to reflash using the SDL interface (and the switch!).
The later 1998on Hitachi ECUs should be reflashable but I haven't done any work on those.
I am working on converting the Mitsubishi 8V MHxxxx based ECUs to be reflashable via the serial link.
The Bosch ECUs are reflashable, there are a number of companies that do this already.
The Aisin ECUs I don't know a lot about yet

So does this mean we are getting closer to that easy M15a into sierra swap we've been talking about?

I.E. instead of having to deal with all the immobilisation stuff just remove the dependency?

Author:  Rhinoman [ Mon May 16, 2011 8:05 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Rhinopower

Theoretically its possible to remove the immobiliser, its a matter of jumping past the immobiliser code and then setting a flag to say that it passed the tests. Its not something that I've really pursued as there too many car thieves over here and its almost impossible to get insurance for a modded vehicle without an immobiliser.

Well if you work out a way to flag the immobilizer code, then I guess its possible to write your own immobilizer code and setup a keyfob to suit?

Welcome to Auszookers btw! Your stuff is very interesting and Ive lurked around your site for a while 8)

It's here :)

I figured now would be a good time to look at the software and actually run it :) it all runs on my work laptop ok and talks to teh unit fine, ill need to find a reason to go for a drive I think

the data logging looks pretty cool too

oooo OBDII stuff is fun! I had a similar set-up hooked up to a carputer running centrafuse in a v35 skyline. It was pretty bad ass actually, you could clear error codes, get a reading and log data from every sensor fitted to the car and all that plus navigation, music, movies and internet on a 7inch touch screen! I highly recommend it but remember to look up at the road every now and then!

I had a tuner deal for my 94 chevy full size truck, I used it to monitor and figure out what was wrong when it would hiccup. It was hooked to a laptop,MP3's the works :D

They had a "romulator" when you could emulate an on board atmel chip with the computer and run the car, then you burnt the chip in if the maps were good.

I am really wondering which ECM;s support uploading/reprogramming spark and fuel maps. I wonder if any of the US spec TBI's got those ECM's

Is there anyway of adding oil pressure, water temp and fuel gauge to this and running a (EG :7") LCD dash...??

I wonder if it can run on Win CE? That way I can unload it to a generic GPS which runs CE and has a USB port.

You could get a 7" vga screen connected to a laptop or micro pc to display this, wont do oil pressure or fuel though and would be a big undertaking

you would be better off using something that measures with its own sensors and can output to a screen

Wrong type of usb, however if you went from the sdl to serial then sent it to a unit over bluetooth serial into teh CE device that could take care of the communication I think, then you just need to adapt the software, though given this is still a big work in progress to get 100% on a pc I would say developing it further would be a while away yet

This is my setup on the bench:

The ECU is out of my 8V Vit, I use the Moates Ostrich 2.0 with TunerPro v5 to do real time code and map changes. The USB Logic Analyser lets me follow code execution to validate code mods. I already have one board modified to take an EEPROM, the next stage is to add the code to allow in circuit programming.
The US 8V Track/Kicks can't be reflashed but I'm considering making a daughterboard, the processor is very similar in those.
