i just got a quote of $700 in labor to swap out the gearbox i got. is this a good price? Im starting to think maybe doing this is abit out of my reach and itll put the car out of action for too long and with time being limited |

$700! I reckon I could fly down, do it, put myself up somewhere for the night and fly home and still cover my time well |

DIY mate, if you have the two gearboxes that you are gonna swap, even if you never done it before you could make a day of it, supply beers and a mate or two even easier, 2 lifting it out is easier 1 is doable, I bench pressed out my own vit box at ground level, though found it easier to have a mate help put it back in. basically just remove gear and transfer stick, jack up and jackstand front end, remove starter (i find you get a better angle to work if you slide under from the front, (piece of piss if you have a body lift) remove drive shafts and remove top two bolts, and loosen lower 2 bolts (thats right only 4 bolts holding all together) unplug loom and breathers, remove cross-member (support box) and remove last 2 bolts and the whole thing will slip out easy as pie think about doing clutch while in there |

i used a block of wood and a heap of tesltra rope around the gearbox and through both gear holes to ensure something took the weight of the gearbox once its free. with that, by myself was pretty simple. |
