found a few silvertops for cheap and its giving me ideas. just want to know how hard it is to do. has anyone on here done it before? if so, any problems with engine mounts and drive shafts? |

Had a mate who put one into a 1' lwb. Had issues with engine mounts, shortened jackshaft from box to transfer and gearbox crossmember. From memory you need to use a specific mode of toyota gearbox to keep the length nice and compact. |

Is a 20v a silver top? I have noticed the intake manifold will have to be custom or modded as it won't be facing forward mounted north/south. |

Intake manifold, that reminds me... Possible clearance issues with the brake master cylinder depending on how your engine mounts are made. |

Done the 20v in mine, I just chopped the inlet manifold round the brake booster to suit,only till I get the motivation to make a custom job, changed engine mounts shortened jack shaft to the transfer and used an early carona radiator, the only 1 I could find with both inlet and outlet on the passenger side to save me buying a rwd water kit for the motor Havnt got pics but here's a vid http://m.youtube.com/?client=mv-google& ... Oh and u need a rwd t50 5 spd manual from an ae86 sprinter, or a 4 spd from a ae71 and exend the gearbox mount |

I've spent a day in Dank's swb leafy with 4age silvertop and ae71 auto. Sensational combination for offroad. Alot of work involved if your not familiar with EFI or 4age's. Can't comment for a coily specifically but there is heaps of threads RE sticking them into a leafy. |

thanks heaps guys. yeah i was going to say a t50. got a feeling its going to be more expensive than the motor tho =S and yeah a 20v is a silver or blacktop. being a 97 coily apparently need to have a motor made same year or newer to do a conversion =S hmmm. would a bigport intake manifold off an 86 fit on a silvertop?? |

intake will bolt bu to the head but defeats the purpose of not having the quad throttle bodies from the 20v custom intake plennum ain't that hard to make I just got lazzzzzy, boxes aren't worth more than $300 $400 it's just finding 1 in good nick, yeah there are 2 versions silver and black top, both a much of a much, I think the black revs to 8000 rpm before the rev limmiter kicks in an 7500rpm for the silver, blacks are more expensive to |

ah thanks kermy. yeah you are right on there. tho you can get some decent cams, exhaust, bigger intake and valves you could probs get around 9 or 10 from what my uncle has built =P he might of had to do a few more things tho =S. did you do yours at home or in a shop? |

Don't use a t50 box. You can get a bellhousing from NZ that lets you use a W series box. And remember, just because the engine is cheap doesn't mean the conversion will be. As long as you keep that in mind you'll be fine. It's just an engine conversion. |

So true, it isn't cheap, I bought a Sierra with the 20v conversion in it,(half finished project for $1500 took what I needed to put motor and box in mine, between radiator, thermo fans, fuel pumps, surge tank random steel, engine plumbing, electrics cost close to $1500 on top of what the motor cost, worth it for the finished product but $100 here and $50 there adds up to a Mcshitload after a while |
