hey guys put a body lift in last night from just cruisin and now my steering is really tight but the collum looks pretty flat still.. also the gear stick and the tranny stick arnt bashing against the body but the boots are restricting them.. has anyone done one on here latley? i need some info on how some ppl have modded these areas.. cheers

for me i bent the gear stick about 70degrees as close to the base as possible and fitted backwards, sure the selector is further upright then before but i like the position, and for the transfer i just cut it off and welded windmill rod on bent it to correct shape and cut to correct length, all standard boots fit, no knocking on the body, and no cutting to body,

as far as the steering goes did you loosen the unis on each end of the flat section while lifting the body, then ensuring that there is still plenty of spline in each done them up again, once the body is settled back down there is really stuff all more spline exposed.

all this is assuming a 2in body lift

worth giving it a go, cos if its pulling a bit making things a bit tight should sort it out, cos my vit isnt heavy on the steering at all and thats on 30s f100 rims and no power steering

how did you go with brake lines and stuff did you have to extend them or just move the brackets

only the LHF needs modification for the body lift, but since i has a suspension lift also i got new lines made up so everything clips in properly

i suppose you could do it that way, I just went with extended lines

You can just rotate the fitting through the guard so that it point down rather then forward. Just loosen the fitting in the engine bay.

when i did my BL on my swb vit, i didnt have to touch the gear knob only the tranfer case....all i did was, undo the screw, pull off the knob, then remove about 3-5mm off the bottom of the knob, i used a file (just before the hole for the screw), put it back on and drive away.

all this does it give the boot that extra bit of vertical height, removing some off the pressure. dont go bending or cutting anything unless you really need to and last resort.

i only loosened one of the steering joints, and had it coming off one day while out 4wding, luckly it fell back in straight away, but i loosened both off then slide the shaft down so it was even on both splines.

my BL wasnt a JC one, it came in a box with my vit, but my initial problems with transfer was that the lever fouled both at 2 hi and 4 lo so my initial less invasive mod only got me 2hi -N on the transfer, so ive made my own lever.

Also my lever modding on the gearbox, was cos with boots and centre console on the lever could go into 2, 4 or R and i prefered to mod the levers then cutting at the floor, though im not sure if my holes in the floor are different, cos mine was originally a 3spd auto. and for fitting the inner boot to the floor ive put a small plate in front of the inner boot.
