i have just put a 1600 TBI 8v in my zook. when i go to start it from cold, it'll take a bit to start then it fire's and rev's high till it warm's up then it cuts out. i start it up again and it'll run for about 5 seconds then cut out. some tims it'll will run but it rev's up and down till it nearly cuts out then rev's back up. any idea's? Thanks for any help

Have you got all the vacume hoses attached? Pics of the engine may help us see if anything is missing/forgotten. |

Pics of the engine may help us see if anything is missing/forgotten. It should all be there. Its the one from my ute. Was purring like a kitten when it was taken out. Is it still idling high then dropping of suddenly? |

Sound like a major vacuum leak to me.intake gasket maybe? |

x2 The 02 sensor doesn't start messing with the AFR until the engine is warmed up. The way you get your high idle for warm up on the TBI is an expanding wax pellet which when cold lets some air through until sealed once warm. It would explain the high idle until it's warm. Once warm maybe the 02 is stepping in and killing it. Not sure what else comes on once it's warm. How high is the idle during warm up? |

OK that's way too high for the wax pellet warm up idle thingy-me-bob. That has to be a cracked/missing vac line or an air leak at one of the inlet gaskets as mentioned above. |

with out a tacho, and probs with no air filer it will sound allot louder then you think, chuck your tacho on and give us what it's really doing..... |

yea tru, i'm not sure how to do that! played with it this arvo, unplugged the 02 sensor and it would run a little bit longer but still cut out. i'm goin to replce all the vaccum hose's 2morro to see if that helps thanks for ya help guys

You can use a can of carburetor cleaner, and spray around the suspect spots, if they idle changes when you spray over a certain area, then you know where your vacuum leak is. Check the manifold and TBI base too. Of course be careful with the flammable sprays
