I'm looking at doing the 1.6 EFI swap into my coily sierra. Question is... What is the deal with non-open class licenses (L and P) and driving "modified" vehicles? (In QLD) I have an open license so thats not the drama, its that I have taught a number of people to drive over the last few years and it'd be a shame to loose that capability. From what i could find on QLD transport site while they are "L" class it seems like it's ok? (presumably because the teacher is responsible) Under the P1 and P2 it says restrictions apply to modified vehicles. What are the restrictions, and what consitutes a modified vehicles for the purposes of licensing? Probably be a pain in the arse - but can exemption be applied for? On the topic of modification... interestingly AAMI classed a set of extractors on an otherwise stock 1.3l "modified" and would not insure it. that was a fair few years ago and its different now i am rating 1 but still... funny that you can buy off the shelf vehicles that go like the clappers with no dramas... but putting a set of extractors onto a whippersnipper motor, bolted up a car with aerodynamics of a brick becomes so modified it can't be insured! |

L platers can drive anything with a supervising driver, so that's not an issue there. |

On your P plates in NSW I know you can go to the RTA and say its the only vehicle you have that you can drive. They take your 60 odd dollars (I think) and off you go. Unless they put a stop to that in the last 12 months? |
