Sorry to fire up an ancient post but I'm about to have my oil pump gasket replaced at Ultra Tune tomorrow. I need to know does the sump have to come off to get the oil pump off? I ask as it will change a 2hr job to a 5hr job |

Yes it does due to the two studs in the bottom of the pump preventing it coming straight forward. |

Anyone ever heard of this gasket leaking? would be a first for me If youve got oil around the front perhaps look at the crank seal |

Yeah it doesn't see to be crank. There's an alcove top left edge of the pump by the water pump join and seems to be oozing there. Either way both gasket and crank seal will be replaced. Just hoped not another full $500 excercise after just cost $500 to fix two broken sump bolts and reseal sump. |

last time i seen an oil leak pool in the top of the oil pump wasnt the gasket on the oil pump ... it was leaking down from the head gasket where the oil feeds the cylinder head . I have seen oil leaks from an oil pump gasket before , but it was from when the oil pump was pulled away from the block by an incorect tightening sequence of ancillery brackets. |

Interesting and scary. Pretty sure its not the head. pray it isn't the head! As for the tightening it would be rather apparent early after rebuild rather than years and years later would it not? |
