I'm removing my old wt flares to install my new flares and just wondering how people have removed the factory brackets. I want to try drill them out without going through the inner panel. What's the best way of doing this? Or is there another method? |

Couple ways to do it. Firstly, you can buy a spot weld drillbit. You can also sharpen a normal drillbit to have a more shallow taper if you have a decent stone on a bench grinder. Another way is to use a grinder with a 1mm cutting disc, and just gently graze over the spot weld until you have thinned the metal in that area. Care should be taken when doing this though as 1mm cutting discs are not intended for this purpose, and they can disintergrate, so wear PPE. Same as above but with a flap disc if you can get it in there. Pete |

Yep, get a spot weld drill bit. I did mine not too long ago and it worked a treat. Very easy to damage the panel behind though. |

But that centre piece will put a hole in the panel behind won't it? |

it is just a locating thing and retracts into the bits housing. |

Couldn't you use a dremel with a grinding wheel to remove them? Probably take a bit longer but would fit in easily and you'd have good control of it. |

There are a million things you could use, but why not use the right tool for the job? |

I used an angle grinder to get my side mould brackets off. Didn't leave any holes to fill either. |

Nope, thats normal. I have a spotweld drill bit, but before that, i used a 4inchgrinder with a new grinding disc. They are the same thickness as a spotweld, so using the edge of the blade, grind way gently, you know its getting close when the metal will change the colour from the heat. Gently does it. |
