Hi guys.
I need some safety advice on some modified (N/T to W/T spacing) axle housings i bought off ebay. here are some pics on some of damage and seemingly dodgy fab work. The housings them selves are straight but the perches are a little off. caster angles are good though. |

Thats from the U-bolts. I've seen alot of them like that. Should be fine. The welds look a bit ratty but they should be ok. |

so u reckon they are fucked, or do u think they are saveable. should i strengthen the tube or leave it? just a bit worried about bending. |

Are you going to do high speed jumps? If not, then just leave it. Like I said its quite common. Welding braces to your diffs is more likely to cause them to bend than the dents from the U'bolts. |

i know some one that wont be happy you said its dodgy welds spring pads are stock pads cut off and reused, tsor wasn't selling his when these were done. housing are straight and were welded in a brace. the bent bits your are talking about are from u bolts rubbing |

X2 for Fatzook's comments. The workmanship isn't all that great but I can't see anything really terrible happening. Welding perches properly (taking into account caster, spacing welding etc) isn't all that easy. If the caster and spacing is right with these, leave them alone. They're not going to break - they just look crappy. Steve. |

Sorry mate but the welds are not a bad effort. But this is an axle housing I feel if they were inspected they would be failed. Apparently it was done by a boiler maker, I have only completed 2nd yeah back in 2007 and I am quite sure I can do better. No offense, just a concern. |

Thank you all for your input. I feel much better about using these housings. Just hope I have not offended anyone. Will let u know if they break once I put them in the Lwb. The plans are to lift (the least I need to make it work) lock ( front air, back lock rite) gear ( 6.5 transfer) big 33" maxxis bighorns tyres with f100 wheels. Will take me a fair while to do it all while I am at uni for the next 3 years, still buying parts, plans will prob change. Any way, thanks alot |

If you are getting an air locker put it in the back for better on road manners, and power steering for the front. |

Aids in steering ability I thought |

A decent power steering setup should be sufficent to overcome any heavier steering. |

True, but if you are going to have one auto and one air, and the vehicle will spend most of its life on the road, then on road manners is what most people complain about with auto lockers. |
