I have just finished powersteering install and when driving along at low speeds, if I turn the car stalls. I searched and from this thread it doesn't appear normal. Any ideas on what could be the cause?

What pump did you use?

Vitara box and pump on 1.3 engine. Maybe the bigger engine can handle the extra strain better?

Mine works fine...1.3 engine also. Possible pump issue, working to hard maybe, it could be buggered or close to it?? Lines on the right way?? Holding your tongue the right way while driving Just some ideas

Correct belt? Not too tight?

What sort of revs, remember, when you are at idle and turn with power steering, the engine will rev up to handle the load, if yo are turning hard, and rev too low, simply too much load on the engine.

only if you have hooked up the idle up solenoid on the pump

i didnt and had no prolems

Ok, I have never put a power steering on, have one ready for the big build, just going on what my other cars do and have done with power steering when you turn at stop n idle.

Had 1 pwr str conversion do this to me, but after a couple hung ks it settled down, assumed it was crap in the relief valve or something that passed through the system, make sure none of your hoses are kinked creating extra load on the pump

Driving 1st high no throttle just idling along, turn and it dies.

Hoses on the right way.
No kinks, but 1 is slightly sharper than perfect bend.
little too much fluid, just above max line.
Belt was tight to get on, had to roll it on - how tight is too tight
Yes still carby

Any way to clean relief valve? or clean in general as don't know condition...

whats your idle set at?

i dont have idle up connected. but at idle i can turn hard and my revs will drop 500ish and it will go to stall, if it wasnt efi i recon it would stall. yet to try it with big tires but.

Its set at about 1000rpm. prior to install the idle was a tad higher. I run it a little higher to stop stalls offroad. Need to fix up the idle up solenoid and hook it to a switch for wheeling.

yeah mine is about the same.
if i am idleing around in the bush i hold mine at 1500rpm anyways so not a issue for me!
