hi again guys lol. im thinking about lifing the whole body off the chassis to fix some rust in the floor and stuff. would it be pretty easy? what would i have to disconnect?

also think il be taking motor and gearbox out also to do new clutch and headgasket change and maybe paint motor

If you take the body off the chassis, you will need to disconnect
the speedo cable, brake lines at the master cylinder, engine harness, hand brake lever, accelerator, brake and clutch peddles. Rear bumper, indicators, pull out the transfer lever and gear stick, remove the fuel filler. And obviously the body mounts, 10 or so. How bad is the rust? It would be easier to leave it on and fix the rust, depending where it is.

If your pulling the body off then your possible planning on doing a better job if you want rust fixed for good then it will take time...

If someone were to be doing an engine conversion at the same time, surely it would make sense to take the body off yes?

When I say engine conversion I mean G13BA to G16B.

I should remove the body and repair it all and repaint it when I do the conversion (which I haven't got all the parts for yet, mainly the G16B...)

Every job is just miles easier with the body off. Once you've done it, you'll never want to work on a car with the body on again.

Only takes a couple of hours.

I'd recommend pulling the front clip before pulling the body though - It's much easier to move the body around once the clip is off.

Cool, I'll assume painting the whole thing would be easier too yes? Along with repairing the body and cleaning up the chassis?

For sure.

Not having to lay on your back under the car to try and do something is a huge bonus.

It also allows welding to be done in places that could be done with the body on.

I got mine off just under a hour
Un did most off what's in second post
Took front clip of first
When lifting cab small amounts at a time to see what was still attach or what I have missed

Much easier to clean/weld/paint when the cab is off

If your thinking of taking the motor and box out, you are already doing half the work too get the body off. In about a day i can strip a car down to a bare chassis, the biggest problem is storing bits so they are not in the way.

Heh, well the plan I'm starting to come up with in my head is to do a full repair and repaint before I do the engine swap.

I should start making a list of what needs to be done to the thing, I'm thinking almost every job would be far easier with the body off, and while I have it off I can make the wheel wells much neater and get rid of all the nooks and cranny's for the mud to hide in!

I can just leave the body sitting in the backyard, Shouldn't take more than a long weekend to repair, a week to prep and another weekend to paint surely!

How heavy is the body going to be? like would I be better off wheeling it into the backyard? or would 4 blokes turn it sideways and walk with it no problems?

you wont have a problem moving it with 4 people.
i can move my cut down cab with 2.

well my engine and gearbox are out now. and seats already out. might aswell pull the rest apart and make it new again
