:helloo: Hey people.
i in the market for a Jimny. was wondering what you all think about all the variations out there.
The 1998 - 2000, is quite cheaper to buy (seems to be about 5000-8000), though it has the 13bb engine.
The 2000-2004, is a bit more to buy (7000-12000) and it comes with the m13a engine.
The 2005 - latest, price to buy has a large range (9000-25000) though that one comes with push button transfer selection. i don't like the idea of that as it is more electronics to fail on me.
Just want to hear you're thoughts. thanks

I have found a 2002 Jimny with a 3inch suspension lift (tough dog) and a 2inch body lift with 30inch mud terrains and a few more extras with 100,000k's. asking $11,500.

Questions:
1. Is this a good price?
2. Will i need to buy caster correction radius arms?
3. Is there any thing i should do to this if i do buy it?
Any help/advice would be great, thanks all.

Pretty sure the 2002 Jimny had airbags as standard, and therefore the body lift is completely illegal and potentially dangerous... That plus 5 inches of lift not including tyres sounds quite extreme...

And I reckon $11,500 is a bit rich too, IMO...

Also, he's obviously talking shit when he says only offroaded twice... Half his pics are off road, and you don't build a car like that to go to the shops...

No. It says "Never been in deep water and only been off road twice while i have owned it."

Ok, fair point, but he has quite a few off road pics in the ad, which would make me very dubious... Especially since, as I said, you wouldn't mod it like that to go out for groceries...

Hey mate ... Good vehicle choice
to answer you questions
1- its about average price.. Take into consideration the mods done to,it,and the klms travelled.
2- castor bushes will need to be fitted for sure.
3- with 30s you will neec gearing soughted out. Either swap to a sierra case or gears for the jimny transfer. And some under body protection.

you CAN have a body lift on a jimny due to the style of sensor that they use...

And dont listen to the sierra boys...

i tried to buy this jimny, i organised to inspect the jimny, the night before he rang me and said its no longer for sale (he was selling the car as he works away and appareanlty he got called back to his job) this was months ago and the add never went down. i tried contacting him about month after this too see if the car was still for sale stating the add was still up and no repsonse .... also he did not build the car, the previous owner did who lived on the sunnycoast, it was sold to the guy now selling it about 2 months prior. the current owner lives in caboolture.

I've physically seen it on the sunshinecoast before this current owner and it is a very tidy rig. note though there is obvious signs of water in the bottom left fog light ...

I was also not a fan of the electronic 4wd idea. A few people on here have it (take for example monkey who seems to wheel a fair bit) and i havent heard of any issues yet. It is really simple and easy to use. I have not driven a non VVT jimny but i have be assured there is a significant difference between the two. the VVT engine is very nice to drive and very zippy IMO keeping in mind i had a 1.6l sierra with a webber before hand.

If your looking into doing any gearing mods there is a thread floating around relating to all the model ratios. the latest models <2005 have a much lower ratio gearbox making a sierra TC conversion stupidly low (40%) as opposed to 16% with a pre 2005 VVT gearbox (from memory, double check the thread)

In relation to what you'd need to do to the jimny you've found, my ideas were castor and if need be gearing.

I perosnally wanted a <2005 just due to the engine ...

Mate its absolutely your choice  Don't feel like you need to cater to others feelings/opinions on the matter. You are the one who has to live with your choice.

I'm not a massive fan. The are not beyond saving though, but they have all of the coilies floors, and then some. I just think that suzuki should have done more with them.

As for not wanting IFS..... I used to be of the same opinion. But after owing a vit I can honestly say that the IFS is no more of a limitation than the dodgy handling and radius bound front end of a jimny. And for all of the Jimny's foybles, I'd rather a smooth driving, well behaved vitara for road use.

Thats just my opinion, based on my experience. I'm not telling you you're wrong. I have respect for all things suzuki.

Happy purchasing 8)

Its a real shame that some jimny's get the terrible hanlding curse, mine drives like a charm before and after lift (IMO better after lift). not even a hint of wobble and for the past two weeks ive been doing alot of highway driving. In saying this i would be less then impressed if i owned one with the notorious wobble.

No. J24 SWB GV doesn't.

2.7L XL7 Doesn't.

Any sierra with a G16B doesn't

having owned a 98 jimny, i'd say go for one of these only cause there chaeper and you can do mods with them without airbags to interfere with. if it the motor ur worried about, swap the 1.3 black to the 1.6 block and ya set (and fit a bigbore kit if you got some xtra cash) . you won't need more power than that. but it's relly wat you're gonna feel comfy with in the long term :)

With the electronic you just have to watch out for wires being pulled out, they are pretty vulnerable so I recommend getting some transfer case protection. Ripped mine out. Wasn't fun though when I was a few 100kms away from home and was tying to figure out what was up. But yeah I reckon go VVT

I've had problems with the electronic 4wd buttons in my Jim, but my car is a POS. Last Jim I had with it was fine, but I beleive you can convert them back to a stick.
apart from that they are great cars to have around town - parking is a pice of piss. just gotta remember your size and center of gravity when wheelin

I have had to replace my t/c wiring twice in two years, but once was due to the position of the cat on my modified exhaust.

My jimmy drives great on the highway...recently did a 1,500km trip and a 2,000km trip in the past 8 weeks and it was comfortable enough.

Not all zooks lack power :)
