hey guys i got underneath the sierra today to change the diffs, gearbox and transfer case oils

front and rear diff done without a hitch

fill plug on the gearbox is bloody hard to get access to with the 3/8" breaker bar i have i may need to get a smaller length ratchet so it clears the exhaust

but my question is the fill plug on the transfer has been butchered to shit - looks like the mechanic last time stuffed it putting it back in

question - how can i get it out without damaging the t/case and thread? small cold chisel tapping it around to undo it then install a new plug?

how would ya do it?

yes u could do that

or u could weld a bolt on the end .. theres lots of ways i had great success on my diffs useing easy outs

also a tip when putting the new ones in dont over tighten them..

they get butchered because people use 3/8 square stuff to try and undo/tighten the plugs

If you plan to use a 3/8th anything to undo it, you'll only stuff it further.
It's a 10mm metric square drive.

hmmm may need to use a small cold chisel and tap it around

i don't wanna use an easy out as i don't want to run the risk of metal shavings getting into the transfer case

Kincrome make an 11mm sq. sump tool. My vit had well rounded drain plugs so I bought one of these and ground off 2 edges with a grinder to make it about 10.2mm and used a hammer to get it in the rounded hole firmly. Then I used a breaker bar to remove the 'tight as' plug.

A bit of Rostoff Ice might help your cause??? its a product Wurth Make... ( work pays for our stuff thank christ ) its not cheap, but it helps getting Loader Bolts undone ;)

ok so cold chisel isn't working so im thinking maybe doing the notch and impact driver idea? How much are impact drivers these days?
