ok new here guys , have owned a sierra for about a yeaar. and bought another one last night , . got home to find that the oil cap had dissapeared and oil covvering the engine bay, just after purchasing it, it was there at the start of the ride home. is about 5 mins from where i live.. is this a sign of a dead motor ? high oil pressure or just the cap not screwed on properly ? any help would be great cheers guys |

Option 3. If it was option 1, you wouldn't have driven it home. Option 2 wouldn't have removed the cap. Check the hole isn't flogged out, and grab another cap from a wreckers. |

Never heard of a problem of the cap unscrewing itself. |

i've had a cap disappear and get caught by my extractors once before =) it rattled loose because the cap had lost its gasket inside and the engine vibrations shook it loose over god knows how long... i knew it had come off cos oil went on the pipes and smoked up pretty good while i was driving =P haha. I was lucky the cap got stuck in the extractors as all i had to do was pull it out and screw it back on for the trip home before getting a new one. |
